After returning from a spirited drive this morning I noticed a piece of black hose hanging down from the bottom left hand side of my V8VR by the left rear tire. I assumed it was something that had got caught since it seemed rather out of place. I gave it a yank and heard the distinct sound of a bracket popping loose. Now I have a piece of about one foot of black hose approx 2cm or so in diameter which is severed at one end with a jagged "break" (this was the bit which appears would have been pointing towards the left exhaust outlet) and the other end which is has a very clean "break" (just looks like a freshly cut piece of pipe) but with a small plastic bracket containing two small screws which is still attached to the pipe.

Now I am slightly concerned. Anyone have any idea what it could be, what I may have done and what I should do next?!

I have been told by a friend it maybe a pipe which collects excess water from the drainage point around the boot panels. Does anyone have a view on this?

Best,
OS

i normally work on the principle if the car still runs then it can't be that important and i put it on the shelf with the rest of the bits.

When you say "left" rear tyre, what do you mean ? Because it all depends which end you are looking from.

Do you mean the side with the petrol cap on ? If so then I'd guess it's the drain pipe from inside the cap recess. As it happens I only worked out it had one yesterday when I washed mine and cleaned said recess and then noticed the water drained out.

So, in future, don't pull things unless you know what's on the other end !

C'mon now, no one is confused by 'left' side of the car. It always is in reference to aft looking forward. Are you confused if someone tells you that you have a smudge of grease on the left side of your face? I think not.

Left and right always depends on which way you are facing, apart from when it refers to yourself, because you clearly can only be facing one way.

A garage does not use left and right right, they use "near side" and "off side", then there is no confusion.

What if it's a left hand drive car , are offside and nearside reversed? Oh, just a minute....

So you have offhand side drive and near hand side drive?

I feel Laurence Logic from the Viz coming on here........smile

I'm sorry, but left side of the car can only mean one thing, just as left side of a plane, or a boat, or anything that has a front and a rear defined. There is no confusion on the part of 99.9% of the male population as to which is left or right side. However, the ladies do seem to get their lefts and rights confused at times.

Thank you very much everyone - appreciate the feedback. Will try and get someone to look a it when I go and get my tracking sorted. Certainly didn't intend to stir a terminological debate, but yes, for what it's worth I meant port side!

Thanks all

No, of course they are not.
Of course they are reversed. The 'nearside' for a left hand drive car is on the opposite side as compared to a RHD car. But left is ALWAYS the same side, no matter what side of the road you drive.
