I'm looking for a new pair of earphones, my last pair was a sennheiser cx281. The reason I went for these earphones is the inline volume control - my music player has a slight hiss when playing something (i.e. pause and it goes away), so the only way around it was to use a higher volume from the player and reduce the volume via the control (the hiss is a constant volume when the player is on, so high volume + attenuation = lower hiss). So a volume control that is changing the output from the player is useless.
However despite me treating them like fairy dust, two pairs have broken: although I have been refunded it's still a hassle. I'd be interested in other earphones, but none have this sort of volume control - instead changing the output from the player. One other solution is going for earphones with a 32 ohm impedance instead of 16. Would this have the desired effect (less hiss at the expense of requiring a higher output from the player for the same volume), is this significant enough, or should I just buy the cx 281 again and rely on sennheiser's (IMO fairly quibble-free) returns policy?

FTR I know a little about electronics etc, and how the dB scale works 
I suspect the difficulty is I can't think of a way of quantifying the level of hiss other than 'slight but noticeable in quiet bits' so I'm not sure if a 3dB reduction is enough or not. Given I never really use more than about half the player's maximum volume the required power increase shouldn't be an issue, but I think I'm probably going to getting another pair of cx 281's.
