This seems to have caused a bit of a stir over recent days. As analysts predict the final (and long overdue) death of Call of Duty, things like Titanfall are being touted as the successor to the throne. It will certainly take some muscle to usurp COD, but could this be it?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanfall

A brief rundown of the game is that it is set in the future, and features big robots kicking arse. The mechs aren't quite Armoured Core size, which is probably good as it means the core of the shooting action as a footsoldier will retain some relevance. It's a multiplayer only game, though not in the sense that one might expect, as the 'campaign' is woven through the game with objectives and story being fed to you as you play. Much like Destiny, it seems that the developers have been busy thinking up an imaginative way to blur the lines between single player and multiplayer experiences. Sounds like it could be fantastic. The trailer is looks fantastic too.

It's hard to envisage a world where there is not another annual update to the creatively bankrupt yet huge earning C(h)O(a)D series, but the slew of new One games looks incredible. Titanfall looks amazing, what excites me though is the way that the story and multiplayer will be intertwined, in ways that we cannot conceive of yet.

It is in a sense. Like Destiny, the developers are taking brave steps to integrate what you would consider the 'story' mode into the online mode. Which should give the game a very organic, dynamic feel. Given the power of cloud processing and dedicated servers, I expect this generation will see a redefining of what is considered the 'single player' experience. Stuff like Dragon's Dogma proved that even a single player game can be improved by asynchronous online elements.

Yes, I caught that. This one. O/T again, but it looks amazing. Slick shooting action, great styling and awesome graphics. And a look at the RPG elements too. I loved it! I gather Titanfall will work in a broadly similar sort of way, though Titanfall seems to be pitched towards larger, more chaotic battles with more combatants (I gather AI bots and human players will all be in the mix).

This is worth watching in 1080p. You get a sense of the scale of the battle, and the way the game plays. I think that's why it's being touted as a contender for COD's crown, because it has a lot of that fast action that COD players seem to love. I also love the free running/jetpack combo which opens up the levels and new ways of travelling across them.

The question in, how am I ever going to get outside and do anything once the new Xbox arrives!?

have to say this looks freaking awesome. I just hope the maps are a decent size. In other words BIG, like 2-3 miles across.

Watched a trailer for this with my son today. It looks very good.

We seem to be entering a kind of 'golden age' of gaming with the advancements in graphics and gameplay the developers are making. COD ghost, Battlefield 4 and Titanfall are my kind of games and they all look awesome in the trailers smile

Anyone playing the beta at the moment? Updating Origin now to download it.

I had been planning to get BF4 but the bugs are still putting me off, so have been playing other things and this wasn't on my radar at all.

I've just seen Totalbiscuit's video and it looks great. The wallrunning mechanic particularly look fantastic and it seems fun to play. Interested to see how it will pan out with the full content.

edit: So much for that, didn't realise it was closed beta!!!

You can register on the game website by logging in with your Origin account.

I've got Xbox one beta access.

There is a very long trAining session to start, to teach you wall running and all the other things.

It is very different, I was doing okay, played 3 games. Took down a few titans. The shooting is very quick and you don't have much life. I think if you get good at the free running it will certainly help. It's fun so far, will play some more today.

If anyone's interested, Tesco Direct are offer the XO version of Titanfall for £42, and in the item description there's an e-voucher for five quid off. That's right, Titanfall on Xbox One for £37.

Quite like the look of this game. I stopped playing COD about a year ago, but this might entice me into getting one of the new gen consoles.

Some aspects of it look a little to Halo like for me though.

I spent a good few hours on the beta and while I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it, I'm not certain I'd recommend buying any platform solely for one title, and Xbox One and Titanfall are no different. If you've already got an XO then it's obviously a different matter, and I'm waiting for release date with bated breath.

I had Beta and really enjoyed it but the lack of single player has me a little unsure if I will get it
