Yesterday I didn't do up the cap properly and so the car spewed out coolant. I got her home and have been having fun trying to bleed the system.
Filled her up with coolant/water.
Opened up the rad bleed valve. Topped up coolant via expansion. Closed rad valve.
Started car. Got her up to about 70 and then engine off and then again bled rad and then the two rail valves.
Repeated 3 times.
Let car then run for a while and go through some heat cycles.
Just been to check coolant. Needed a little bit.
Am going to check the bleed valves when it's cool. I notice however that the cap is venting slightly ie can hear a hiss/slight gurgle. Is this normal? Whilst it could be the cap I wonder if that might be a symptom of an inadequately bled system or anything else...?

Did mine last year when I had the rad fixed ,ideally park uphill ,nose un ass down, mine took a few cycles and the cap is designed to release pressure so shouldn't be a problem as long as its not doing it all the time.

Don't get fixated on the level marked in the expansion tank as in typical TVR style they all run at slightly different levels mine is about an eighth of an inch below the max level if I fill it to the max it always loses that small amount but never anymore.

PS re- map this week with Jools then a thread may appear!

Hiss is fine, mine does it.

Gurgle might be the last pockets of air comming out?

Expanison runs half to quarter. Any more it spits out.

The tanks was designed to fit a car with half the coolant. Its reasonable to assume more space is needed in the tank for expansion.

Get one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SYKES-PICKAVANT-Cooling-...

Fill your header tank to the very top, put this on & pump until it reads 15psi,then undo 1st the radiator air bleeder screw until all water flows refit, then undo the engines bleed screws & close them up leaving the one furthest from the header tank unto last. Take the pressure tester off & check level, if to high syphon out until correct level or add as need be.

Mine spewed out coolant and it was because the return hose to the heaedertank was not open. After getting waterpump off and on and off, checking the rad etc, it turned out to be this little thing.....

I think the link should show a pump you attach to the header tank rather than the cap? Had one on mine to test for leaks.

The cerb is a bugger when it comes to water and when you over or under fill. To much and it will kick everything out and to little it will do the same. If you have a tiny leak you will lose water but the expansion tank will not show it until your blowing more steam than old faithful. T350s have the same problem I am told.

Mines only happy when coolant about level with hole inside ( when cold ) any more than that and will blow steam when hot, if you check expansion tank when hot you will be amazed how much the level comes up. The expansion tank used is designed for a car running less than half the amount of water a Cerb does, hence why it needs to be run low to allow for so much expansion
