Sony NEX3 or something else

Ordered a Sony NEX3 twin lense kit from the outlet store but it will be going back as the camera does not recognise one of the lenses.

This was to be my first camera. So my question is was this the right camera for me or should I take the opportunity to get something else? Budget of £300.

What kind of thing are you intending to shoot? Are you prepared to look at second hand ?

Will be general use so holiday landscapes, people, cars etc. I would prefer something with a warranty but open to suggestions.
