Fabricators and modifiers please help!

Long story short I need to identify the size and shape of the gap between the engine/ancillaries and the bonnet when closed. I guess something like crushable foam that will compact and give me a foot print of the gap. Problem is I have no idea what I need, what it's called or where I get it! Any ideas?

You should have mentioned this at the Growl

we had a ginger ferret right there on hand and we could so easily have pushed him up your trouser leg air intake with a tape measure

Plastic bag / expanding foam / shut bonnet / job done.

i used plasticine "towers" on top of the ancilllaries to make sure i had some clearance.....
