Does anyone else here take cod liver oil or anything?
I've done so on and off for a while and not felt any difference, either positive or negative. I try to eat salmon, mackerel, sardines, prawns, etc. fairly often anyway.
I think I'll stop wasting my money on the caps from now on though: click.

I used to but now i take flaxseed oil tabs instead ( forget probably half the week tbh lol ) TBH not noticed a difference between the 2.

I have to admit i have noticed a difference since i started taking a oil sup.

I started taking them at the same time i started working out. So im not sure if its just the working out thats made the change or the tabs. I used to get a lot of pain in my knees and sometimes my knuckles. Dont seem to have any anymore.

I had Oscar schlatters(sp?) as a kid and have had knee aches/stiffness for as long as I can remember. I don’t eat fish (can’t stand the stuff) either. I take 1 high strength cod liver oil with omega 3&6 cap per day and I have noticed a difference with my knees, so I will continue to do it as it’s a pretty cheap supplement.

I take 5 Omega 3 capsules per day, as with any supplement almost impossible to quantify the benefits as the benefit is a long term issue, which even then is almost impossible to say yeh they did me some good LOL!

Look at the evidence behind them, make your decision on whether you feel there is a benefit to taking them for the rest of your life and then crack on!

I hate fish so these replace that missing link, just don't burp 30 minutes after taking them on an empty stomach vomit

This is what you need my friend! For years I refused to take fish oil caps due to the after taste but came across these which are enteric coated. I don't get any after taste now.

Did nobody read the link in the first post?
It's widely held that fish oil supplements, especially over long periods probably does more harm than good.

Yes, but it seems that you didn't. Here's an exert from the bottom of the article written by the author:

So I still recommend eating fatty fish a couple times per week, and taking cod liver oil daily, presuming your diet is as I described above. What I don’t endorse is taking several grams per day of fish oil, especially for an extended period of time. Unfortunately this advice is becoming more and more common in the nutrition world.

There's also a study here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12069368

Cod liver oil can be recommended for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.

I agree that a lot of the benefits are grossly over-stated on cod liver oil, but I don't get a decent source of Omega 3 through my diet, so I think supplementing it for me is a good idea. Like I say, I get knee issues from a childhood problem and I do notice less stiffness and pain in my knee. Is it definitely the cod liver oil? No.

Tbh, I would buy flax seed oil, but at 9 quid a bottle in the supermarket, I think cod liver oil is better value and much more convenient. Unless someone can show me that taking flax seed oil is definitely better than cod liver oil supplementation to be worth it.

The important part being "presuming your diet is as I described".
Most consume far too much omega 6 oils and refined foods.

I accept that fish oils and fermented cod liver oil esp. is beneficial to those who suffer arthritis and other joint issues, but it's supposed heart/cv benefits are questionable.

I do interval training for my heart/CV benefits. wink

My diet is pretty clean too (protein powder w/ skimmed milk, papaya, apple, full fat greek yogurt + blueberries, a spinach, egg, chorizo, spring onion, coleslaw and bell pepper salad & a scotch egg, spoon of PB before training + sugar free red bull for my food today + probably chicken with asparagus & sweet potato for dinner and milk casein protein).

Would you consider your diet typical of the British or Western consumer? wink

Probably not, but then again I didn't think most typical people would take fish oil? If I ate fish regularly, I wouldn't bother with supplementing it either. I just hate all fish. Eugh.

When I looked at cod liver oil bottles in the shops the ingredients suggested there was very little cod liver oil in them, mostly made up of fish oil. Is there any point taking these sort of supplements and eating wild caught fish with the Fukushima radiation thing? Shouldn't udo's oil be the choice now?

Has anyone had a look at the MyProtein Super Omega 3 supplement at all?
