What to look for in DB9
Discussion
Hi
I have read Grant's book, but I was wondering what do people think i should look out for in a DB9. Just so that I am a little careful and I have all bases covered (plus you are rather helpful here
and you include people who actually used the vehicle in its guises.
Thanks Neil
P.S. Old or new as I am looking at both
Imagine you have about 50k for an old and 75K for a new.

Otherwise they're all fantastic! My preference would be a for a manual car with Sports Pack, they are rare but do come up
Check the door handles and mirror mounts extremely carefully for defective paint, test the satnav, check the discs (see if they are lipped), check the inside edge of the tyres and their age to see if they've cracked. Service history is everything, buy on condition not mileage.
Premium audio options are preferred to standard, cruise is a must. You might want phone stuff, I didn't.

Thanks for the colour idea. I am thinking that there is something unusual about the colour but the price is king
The audio is useful as I have heard the Linn requires a lot of servicing especially the higher the wattage, hence the move away to Alpine (sorry Aston Martin).
Your bit about door handles etc was very useful, and the sat nav and the tyres.
Is the sport's pack worth it? I have driven with and without and with seems a little firm for me, especially with the roads not smooooothhh.

I'm sad now,,,,Yeti doesn't like my black interior,,,it is 'pure' black,,,does that make it even worse.

Lovely - the purity of design of an early DB9 in launch colours cannot be overstated

Would that be with a capital G, Yeti?
Now, if see Grigio Titanio - Ferrari, it may show silver on the log book, so might pass the Yeti test.
It is a beautiful silvery light grey colour, with a very deep metallic hue. Really sparkles in the sunshine. There would have been quite an extra cost for the original owner.
Enjoy the search Neil. Be patient if you can, to find your ideal specification.

I had a Vantage in that colour; beautiful. Now, if see Grigio Titanio - Ferrari, it may show silver on the log book, so might pass the Yeti test.

The size of the mica flakes in Grigio Titanio makes it a great and unique colour - grey(ish) in dull light and the brightest, sparkliest silver in direct sunlight. Pity it's a Dancing Donkey colour:Now, if see Grigio Titanio - Ferrari, it may show silver on the log book, so might pass the Yeti test.

Yes. 4.7 coupe with sports pack.
Thank you.Sorry to go off topic briefly.
I am compiling a list of Grigio Titanio 4.7 Vantages (don't think there are any UK Grigio V12s), and so I may already have come across your car. So far I know of ten cars (there are not many).
Please tell me the first registration date of the car that you owned, so I can check my list.
Thanks Whoami.

As a devout non-believer, no Now, if see Grigio Titanio - Ferrari, it may show silver on the log book, so might pass the Yeti test.

My DB7 was Grigio Titanio... A very beautiful colour

OP, 9 out of 10 you look at will be grey with black... It's just how it is, but they're all stunning cars!

As to the stereo...who cares when you have that V12 noise. The only time we have ever tried the stereo was in the garage, its never been switched on out on the road.
If, say, you're on the autoroute from Monaco to Calais, to be done in a day... How awesome does that V12 sound at constant monotonous revs, cruise set at 83mph..? Not >that< awesome TBH. I was, and am glad of my Linn 900w system. The stereo is important unless its purely a weekend toy car for Sunday morning blasts. It's not a Caterham

I had a Grigio Titanio 4.7 Roadster with sports pack first registered Sept08, hope that helps. Sorry to go off topic briefly.

Thanks - even those slightly off topic. Most I have looked at are either grey outside with black interior, or black outside and get interior. Interesting that you listen to the engine - I have a ipod as well.

Good to see you are using the guide and involving the very knowledgeable and friendly Pistonheads Aston Army Neil
.....Nothing wrong with bright colours, if that's your bag you may save a few pounds as they aren't as popular overall - most don't want a "look at me colour" and I for one love the classy understated hues inside and out. The darker interiors also ensure some of the cheaper switch gear blends in rather than stands out and it tends to highlight the alloy touches and dials, they also make the coarse stitching stand out better.. having said that there are some great brighter colours as Yeti has said.... personally I'd be sure to pop round a couple of local dealers and look at all the interior on all the models to get a better idea of what YOU like.Be sure to negotiate hard if you are looking at a newer 09MY+ 470 bhp car as prices will come under more pressure on the newer cars as more new 9's and Virages start to filter through into the used market.
What I would also say is the top end of your budget is (with a bit of negotiating!!) now in DBS territory.. particularly if you are after a manual...... temptingly true
