Wheel colour help
Discussion
When in doubt throw it open to the great PH collective. My Torquise X300 XJR is going to inherit the 18" Penta's from my "Sport". Presently sat on a set of 17" Antera's. Just got a set of new Goodyear Eagles ready to fit and I'm getting the rims powdercoated.
But, I don't want to go with the stock Silver. I'm thinking something darker, Anthracite, Charcoal, Silk Black what?
Would this work? What would you do?
Thanks.

personally i think refurbed pentas look great !

i have some BBS wheels on mine at the moment, ( and a spare set of BBS wheels that need a refurb)

i also have a set of pentas that need a refurb, and i was thinking of having them black to "murder" out the XJR
i think the darker wheel you go it kind of blurs the look of the wheel on the car

you could try plastidip ( which peels off) and try another colour
or photoshop your best picture?
Yeah thanks mate. You need to understand that you're communicating with someone rather advanced in years.or photoshop your best picture?
Plastidip, Photoshop..... getting out of my comfort zone here. How nice would it be to have a web site where you could select a wheel type, mess with the colour and then overlay it on to a pic of your car. Anyway I'm now determined to go with a really dark colour, just don't know which one though.

When I changes the colour of my XKR I decided the silver wheels would clash with the bodywork
I had also changed the window trim to black, again I felt the Dorchester grey would clash
So changed the colour of the wheels also to black

Excellent ,transforms the car.I had also changed the window trim to black, again I felt the Dorchester grey would clash

How did you change the window trim ?

you have had x308s, is there much difference between them before any mods?

Thanks for the THUMBS up regarding the pictureHow did you change the window trim ?
Standard XKR to standard XJR I wouldn't say there was much differance other than more leg room for the rear seats
As you must know the XKR is no way near a standard car
My body man re painted the trims when he changed the body colour
He also took out the side repeaters and incorperated them in the rear view mirrors
also did away with the chrome rear light surrounds and painted then black as well

The X300 XJR is an iconic car, and Turquoise is the most iconic colour.
Therefore, I would sell the Penta and replace them with a set of the original XJR6 17 inch diamond cut wheels in the original colour.
Why change perfection?

I fully respect your opinion here. I have a copy of the original roadtest of the XJR in the same colour by Performance Car in 1994 where they headlined it "Probably the best saloon car in the world" Very Clarksonesque. Therefore, I would sell the Penta and replace them with a set of the original XJR6 17 inch diamond cut wheels in the original colour.

But, I really love the Penta's. I think the more open spoke design combined with the lower tyre profile better reflects the feline grace of the body styling more succesfully than the originals.
Anyway, It's good to exchange views. Well, so my Mum said!

Time for an update on this. It's taken a while! I hope you agree that my indecision eventually reaped benefits.
I decided to go for "Smoked Chrome" powder coating. I think it gives the car a tougher, meaner look
balancing the Turquoise finish and Black trim.
Oh, I changed the registration too, something rather more in keeping with a Big Cat.
