Ticking!!!

Hi
My cayman 2.7 has a rather loud ticking noise on tick over after starting the car from cold,can anyone tell me if this is normal ?

Yeah, had it on my Cayman R. A particularly spirited acceleration out of a roundabout with lots of lateral G and suddenly there is this loud ticking. Sounded a bit like a piece of card catching against bicycle spokes and was independent of engine speed. Same for you?

Took it into an OPC who listened to the engine with a long screwdriver and ran diagnostics including cylinder shut offs etc. Gave me the all clear. Later in the afternoon, bit the bullet and drove it hard. Been quiet since. Occasionally hear a little bit of ticking but no warning lights or problems. I've also run diagnostics using my Durametric. No faults recorded. Car at the time had done about 2,500 miles from new so figured it was parts bedding in but it made it no less disconcerting.

Could be. Depends upon the severity of the ticking and well obviously where it is coming from.

First, how's the oil level? Then how's the oil? Do you have the right oil in the engine? None of that 0w-30 stuff, for instance.

Does the oil have lots of miles? It gets thin you know from unburned gas and water build up and this can make for a noisier engine.

A bit of ticking upon start up can be normal but you really should have the noise listened to by a professional. BTW, the noise doesn't have to be from inside the engine either.

And it could be, probably is, something minor but not knowing this can cause you no little mental anguish as you fret over what it might mean.

The car has a full opc history,and is due a minor in January .
