Running a (very small) Sportive - In France

Time to bounce some ideas. I work for a company which has access to a a chalet in Morzine.

I am toying with organising a kind or sportive/package trip to Morzine, something along the lines of 6 Cols - 1 Day, including Col de Joux Verte (1760 m), the Col de Feu (1117 m), Col de Cou (1116 m), Col de Terramon (1100m) the Col de Jambaz (1027 m) and Col de lEncrenaz (1432 m) Montriond lake. 3,637m of climbing over 164km.

Col de Joux Plane and Col De Ramaz are close too.

The idea is you would fly out on the Thursday, take a spin on the Friday & Sat, then do this ride on the Sunday.

Problem is, where do I go from here?! Would you need to apply to the French for a licence? Would you expect support (broom wagon), would you expect food stops en-route? I'm talking circa 10/20 people on a given date. How much would you pay for the whole thing (not including flights)

The idea is to start small, and grow it.

Sounds interesting

I guess the payment depeneds on what you get, (as you say; food stops, support vehicle, obviously organised routes etc) but for the actual ride itself probably not a huge amount (£50 as a very rough number, depending on actual support I guess). It's the addition of nights, inclusive of breakfast or not etc. over the ride itself.

Idea has evolved a bit, so it becomes a guided ride in groups of 6-10 people and a package rather than a sportive.

Included in the price would be:

Transfers to and from Geneva
Accommodation for 4 nights (inc Food morning and evening)
The "guide"

So what else would you expect and pay for?

Have a look at www.adventuresinthealps.com as they do similar stuff. Might give you a guide to what is provided and costing from a commercial organisation. Lots of guided cycle tour companies around too.

As ewen says, there are plenty of companies (like col conquerers for example) for whom this is their day job and would be happy to help. most importantly they know the areas so can provide different routes which avoid the main thoroughfares but also ensure the roads are all sealed surface and rideable. You can plot routes and things yourself using google earth, maps etc but you always run the risk of ending up on gravel paths if you haven't been there before.
