if you accelerate quickly up to the speed limit, which is 30 mph in my case, is it against the law.
I did and a police officer followed me on his bicycle and screamed pull over, and shouted in an ignorant manner to get out of my car immediately. I did not and stayed put as i had my 8 year old daughter with me, he gave me a warning is this correct?

I would imagine that the act itself is not illegal but if an officer considers that your driving was irresponsible or dangerous then he has the right to a moan.

no it is not! driving without due care etc are. i'd ask him what it was that he thought you were doing wrong, and why he felt the need to tell you to stop.

if he cannot answer this, i'd take this further. no way is accelarating wrong. indeed, the police, on their driver training courses, advise students to accelerate 'firmly' up to the limit where safe to do so.

Could be...tyres spinning has been held to be 'DWDCaA' before today.

Futher? To where? The European Court of Human Rights? Where further?

He doesn't need to answer why he's stopped you. Doesn't even need a reason..

Power of police to stop vehicles.

163.—(1) A person driving a motor vehicle on a road must stop the vehicle on being required to do so by a constable in uniform.

(2) A person riding a cycle on a road must stop the cycle on being required to do so by a constable in uniform.

(3) If a person fails to comply with this section he is guilty of an offence and is liable to arrest.

No offence needs to have taken place....

Basically, they can do you for exceeding the speed limit or driving "stupidly" at their discression. I imagine that if you did a V8 Capri style burnout with 120dB exhausts from traffic lights, you deserve to be shagged, but just accellerating quickly shouldn't constitute "driving like a punk".

Police assume all cars should be driven like Austin A30's. You should corner like one, accellerate like one and speed like one. If you exceed those limits, they are likely to root you.

No screeching wheels, just the sound of a V10 rumble through a sports exhaust, nothing else.

The HC is only advisory...

Besides...the limit is a limit, not a target

Anyway i apologized for upsetting him, and he said i like that. ok don't do it again, and that was it.

I had a worse one 10 years ago when i had a TVR, this police officer followed me from the station after i produced documents he pulled me over and said the following this is perfectly true.

" You think you are clever in your fancy sportscar you clever c--nt, watch your speed in futue you f--ck--g
pr-ck, i was shocked by this and dumb struck he just walked off. I was doing 25 to 28 in a 30.

Going to have to disagree with you there, if it says MUST/MUST NOT thats a rule.

Please spare me the pious soundbites of a nanny age.

I had a similar experience (though without the swearing) a few years ago driving through town in my then company Merc C180... Was being followed by a police car and when I parked up in the carpark, he came over and asked if I knew that he'd followed me all the way through town, to which I replied "yes" and he said that he'd stopped me for not wearing a seatbelt, which was (IIRC) a £30 fine and then he commented sarcastically, "not that that will mean anything to someone like you driving around in a flash car like that"... LOL!
I replied that £30 was £30 to anyone and apologised, at which point he let me go on my way.

Yep, in California you can get nicked for "an excessive public display of power".
It comes from the cruising days of the '50s and '60s when kids used to race each other off the line at the lights with daddy's T-Bird or Corvette with about 450 BHP on Polyglas tyres!!

He doesn't. he should be civil to you at all times. I think being uncivil/incivil to a MoP is a discplinary offence. The Duty Inspector may well be interested.
