Can it be done?

We have a elderly Sony CRT, which we're not quite ready to put in a skip. We also have a collection of BDs, and would prefer to buy movies in that format. Assuming we can find a Blu Ray player with component output, could we then just use a component to Scart cable to watch BDs on the CRT?

The answer to the obvious question is that we're merging two households, and not everything can move at once.

It will work, but it's pretty pointless.

Can you even connect a BlueRay player to a TV without an HDMI slot?

Are there any Blu Ray players that do ? I thought that the copyrighting issues meant not. Assume if they do it would be at a lower resolution.

That would be fine, my CRT is just SD, as I believe they all are. I just want to be able to play BDs at my second address, rather than buying DVDs of movies I already have on BD.

I'm pretty sure they stopped putting them on a year or two ago.

Check the makers manual, many are on line now. Mine is a blu ray into a CRT, though I do not have any blu ray discs yet, playing ordinary DVD and recorded HD back OK, the downscale is OK.

Before anyone asks, future proofing. Needed a hard disk recorder with twin HD tuners and DVD player all in one box, the CRT will die eventually and need replacing.

Yes, I should have mentioned that - it would need to be old stock or second hand.

As already mentioned, it's totally pointless to do this. Why not prioritise the move of your HD telly and BR TV?

Otherwise just get a cheapo DVD player?
