Too much wine last night see's me as the owner of this engine (but not at that price)

http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Rolls-Royce-Bentley-Rover-M...

I think the engine weighs more than a complete Ultima but with 27 litres and over 1000lbs/ft torque I plan a Napier Railton replica type vehicle.

Very different from the Ultima and no Factory backup but probably even louder!!

Hope to have it sounding like this in a few weeks.

Yep

Based on the Merlin engine used in WW2 Spitfires but with less of the weight savings leading to more cast iron components instead of aluminium. No supercharger so only about 650hp but 27 litres....................27 litres!!!!!!!!!!!
Probably need a gallon to fire it up!

Now the fun begins. I need an old chassis so that it doesn't need IVA or MOT. Gearbox - that can take 1000 ft/lbs. Rear axle, brakes, suspension, BIG wheels.
This is real farm engineering. Weight is not an issue - it is not a project to break any records, more a case of lots of noise, tyre smoke, and flames - lots of flames.

Probably need to start with an old 7.5 ton lorry chassis and transmission.
Pretty much any old car chassis of that size is going to be big money.
You will also need a haulage licence just to cover the amount of fuel you will have to carry.

Any he is now sticking a supercharger on there to make 1000bhp! smile

Best thing is, it will only take 6psi to make that much power. imagine what 30psi would be like.

Have a look at an LDV van chassis. I know some of the big Touring replica's use these and simply bolt the body to it.

pretty sure there is a rolls chassis on ebay currently that should come somewhere close to fitting the bill.... then you just need someone to make a boat tail body and you are set..

I take it you are aware of Witham Specialist Vehicles?

You should be able to get spares through them.

If I remember rightly, this beast burst into flames, if memory serves me, many years ago on one of the Motorways, but it was not the end of the project - totalled, then rebuilt I think!

Ha. That car was pig ugly in the 70's and it has not aged well.

Residing in Spain I believe.

hahaha the beast... used to be near Dorking..

testing on the French/german motorways caused a national alert.. army thought it was a missile attack as missiles followed main routes in guidance in the 70's

its only when it was spotted doing 150+ mph they removed the alert.

Paul there are a few people I can point your way, especially Chis williams.. he runs the naper Bentley and is a really nice guy..

you will need an old fire engine chassis to run that engine due to twist.

the torques the killer and the transmission, the G50 wont take that..hahahhahahahahahhahaha

It's home.

Just the two throttles but you can put your hand down them!!

24 volt, twin plugs per cylinder, water cooled inlet manifold, dog clutch starter straight onto the crankshaft.

If I could do photoshop I would put up a picture of a stretched Ultima with the 12 exhaust stacks sticking out of the rear clip.

This is enough silliness. This is not an Ultima related thread so I had better stop here.
