Which is faster - Vanquish, DBS or V12V
Discussion
Is there a definitive answer to this as my DBS certainly feels faster than the new Vanquish.
I know that on spec it isn't but having driven the new Vanquish for several miles it just feels faster. The same comment has come from others as well.
We recently drove a number of cars to Gaydon and at one point I was in the new DB9 and the guy in front gave the Vanquish a bit of wellie. I hit the throttle on the DB9 and it definitely was gaining on the Vanquish.
I haven't included the new DB9 in the title as I assume that it is basically the same as a DBS but only auto.
I have put my car against my mates V12V and there was nothing in it.
Has anyone actually compared the cars in the flesh as book times can tell a different story.

This is a weird one because in theory they have the same engine and gearbox I thought but the v12v weighs less so should be quicker.I know that on spec it isn't but having driven the new Vanquish for several miles it just feels faster. The same comment has come from others as well.

however most of road tests I have read put the v12v 0-100 time at 9.7ish ,and the DBS at 8.6 ish ,there isn't much variation from there in terms of standing start times.I can only think the DBS has better traction ?
On the road I couldn't tell the difference when I test drove them back to back when I was hunting.
99.99% of the time these specs are decided by the actual driver.
A second here or there is a very fine line when compared to the human equation.
I've spanked cars in a rolling acceleration that have a 0-62 time of 3.8s, sure they might get off the line quicker than a big bloated Aston, but when all the torque and power of a normally aspirated V12 comes into play in a nice mid-range foot down... it tells a different story.
Also standing starts are very hard to measure across a whole model range. Far too many variables come into play.
They should measure it over 100 starts in various conditions and get a mean average.

Faster in what way? Acceleration? Top speed? Laptimes?
I'd guess the new Vanquish.
Just got to thinking the other day when the DB9 could in effect have rammed the Vanquish when both were under hard acceleration. I'd guess the new Vanquish.
I thought that as a rule of thumb manufacturers put all speeds in order of cost - I suppose I was just expecting the Vanquish to be faster than the DB9/DBS - hence the question.
the only way to find out the difference would be to run all on slicks on a nice warm day on a track...

Who would be interested in a day at Silverstone 6 cars tops 3 race instructors to provide one to one tuition.... split the costs would be a great day!! Beers the night before followed by a day of complete lunacy!!!!
I learnt a lot about my car on the track... And has made me a better and more confident driver.... not to mention was the best fun I have ever had....

Not massively scientific I know, but I had the chance to do the mile straight at milbrook, first in a Vanquish using launch control, and then in a V12V immediately after and managed to get 5mph faster in the v12v.
I was personally not that taken with the Vanquish - it felt much less nimble and the gearbox is not great at all IMO (considering its the flagship model) - a bit clunky.
For me the v12v is the best mixture of GT and sports car - which is lucky as I won't be able to afford to replace it for a while!!

The Vanquish certainly didn't feel quicker than my old DBS to me.
My Morgan feels quicker than my DB9. It isn't though/shrugs
Having never driven either, no point me commenting further! But more torque and power with no weight penalty usually equals a faster car.
That certainly accounts for the relatively low top speed of the Vanquish (apparently).
Oh, and my V12V certainly feels faster than my old DBS too.

Interesting question... but probably the driver ability and tyres choices are the answer!!!
I saw a fast driver Vantage V8 4.3, overtaking Vantage V12 and keeping up with DB9
I'll take that on the chin! I saw a fast driver Vantage V8 4.3, overtaking Vantage V12 and keeping up with DB9

True - but you'd think i'd be more likely to mess up a manual gear change than flappy paddle, and Vanquish launch control helped.

Maybe that is due to the way the power is delivered? /shrugs

On my R6, since I've had the engine blueprinted, it's producing 127bhp at the rear wheel. My mate's ZX10R is producing 197bhp at the rear wheel. My R6 feels more brutal in acceleration (to me anyway) since all the power is available in such a small rev range (i.e. 12k-17k), whereas the ZX10R is high power throughout it (a more constant acceleration feel). The R6 cannot keep anywhere near it in a straight line though, still feels faster. Might just be me though!

The gearbox is a bit of an Achilles heel for the Vanquish II. I wonder why they didn't use the ASMIII as in the V12VS? That torque converter is sapping speed...
I assume its too harsh and most VanqII owners will want a decent automatic mode.
+1 I assume its too harsh and most VanqII owners will want a decent automatic mode.
Normally manual DBS will be (little) slower than a manual V12V, since it is the same architecture, but the V12V is lighter. Traction of thE DBS might be little better, so then it depends on weather conditions as well ass the tires also (on a wet road, the standard V12V tires are not that fast probably).
In top speed both cars will (>10 km/h) faster than a Vqs II with the classic torque convertor being limited.....
