Puppy always sick in the car...

Ella our 4 month old lab hates the car! she cowers and hides when we try and put her in it, and the reason is that every time , no matter how short the distance, she is always sick.

I have made a point of not taking her in the car for a few hours after she has eaten, infact today it was 5 hours and she was overdue her feed but I knew I had to take her out and even then she puked her whole stomach up within 5 mins driving

I even try to drive slower and not turn corners too harshly and move her about, she is in the boot (hatchback)and there is a bed in there and ive also put some teddys in so she doesn't move too much..

any advice please?

They normally grow out of it but go see your vet and they should be able to prescribe something in the meantime.

Try ginger biscuits as a treat to get into the car. Ginger calms the stomach and might stop her vomiting. My two did this regular as pups and still don't like getting in the car. Howver they have got a lot better now and haven't done it for a couple of years now. Ginger biscuits worked for them.

Is she harnessed in the car. Our whippet was a good traveller but he was always more settled with his car harness on rather than loose (very rare we didn't use the harness though)

You need her to get used to the car when stationary, so encourage her to get in the car and then after few mins out again. Once she settles with this idea start the engine but don't move etc, then try very short journeys. This could take a bit of time. There are natural remedies that can help, ask your vets they may also have advice sheets. There's lots of different things to try but taking things slowly is usually key with most of them.

as has been said maybe try a harness. Mine hates being in the boot of a car as she is not stable. With a harness on the back seat she is happy all day. She spent the first month or so as a pup throwing up in the car but got over it with time. Was funny for a short time in that she would throw up every time in my OHs car but not in mine.
I used to give her a small treat for getting in the car and being harnessed up too, this has now lead to her getting in the car and drooling expecting something tasty lol.
