Hi Guys,

I am a complete newbie to the Blackpool rockets, but I have a chance of owning one via a part exchange. As I know so little about them, I wanted to get the general consensus for the V8S - is it a good car and what would you say a MINT one with recent body and engine rebuild is worth?

Are there things to look out for even in "good" ones?

I have looked up all the usual buying guides etc, but the V8 seems so rare I can hardly find any for sale to get a feeling of price.

Thanks all
James

James,
It might be worth posing your questions direct on the 'S series' forum.
The V8S is a very nice and rare beast and a car I've always hankered after.
Mint examples are on the rise price wise albeit one persons interpretation of mint might not be the same as someone else's.
Very good examples should go for anywhere between the 10-15k mark or perhaps even more if they are in exceptional condition.
I'm sure S owners will point you in the right direction regarding what to look out for but I'd certainly want a good look under the car to see what state the chassis and outriggers are in as a starter.
Also, what sort of service history comes with the car? Has it been well maintained?
If the car is as good as you say, then I'd have no hesitation in taking one as a PX if the price is right...

My first Tiv was a V8S. Back in the day was regarded as a bit of a stealth car...period books said it would give a Porsche turbo a run for its money.

BUY ON CONDITION! Chassis condition is paramount....particularly the condition of the trailing arms as these are special order items now. Adrian Venn is a knowledgeable bloke with regard to obtaining obsolete parts.
I would have thought the £10K-15K price range is about right for a really good example. I believe only about 450 examples were built, allow for natural wastage/write-offs and they are pretty rare cars now. Simple mechanics, easily serviced by most good garages...and the flip bonnet allows you to 'walk' into engine.

They are a great car for a week-end away with 2 up.
