Anyone know this car?
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/c...
I'm very tempted, and remember reading somewhere on this forum from a previous owner that it was a great 7 that had been looked after very well, but did mention that he'd sold it in Dec 12 for £18K.
The price seems steep for a 10 year old, even if the spec and condition are good. Don't think it is worth much more than £20K. Anyone agree or disagree?

It was my car. As you say, I sold it privately in December 2012 for the aasking price of £18,500. It sold within about an hour of the advert going live and before I could take the advert down later the same day I had 3 other offers to buy it at the asking price (followed by an offer of £1k over the asking price to to change buyers... which I politely declined but guess confirmed that I may have misjudged the market but hey ho)http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/c...

The buyer (A PHer who may appear) bought it and took it to France but who was up-front about the fact that it was a short term stop-gap car for him whilst he dithered between an Exige and an Evora. I see that it is at a Lotus Dealer so guess he ended his dithering)
Anyhow... a great car. Being a geek, I contacted the builder and also the 2nd owner before buying it from the 3rd owner. If you do a search on Blatchat you will read only good things about the build and builder. The documentation is complete and comprehensive from day 1... to the extent of even including bundles of petrol receipts showing it had run on Optimax.
Just found the text of my advert which gives more spec details. I know the guy who bought it from me had the LSD fitted by Caterham en route back to France with the car on a trailer.
Hope that helps.
Jim

Wow, thanks Renmure, great info and a real insight to its history. Think I will take a serious look at it. Still think £24k is a tad overpriced though. I'll see if there is any movement on the price.tomwoodis said:
Agreed, lovely looking car but that does seem strong money. A new Supersport R as a kit isn't a lot more.
It's the height of summer I guess so someone may well take it off their hands all the same.
This was my exact thought process as well. Even factory built Supersport R is only £5k or so more. It's the height of summer I guess so someone may well take it off their hands all the same.
I think in terms of condition it is probably as good an R300 as you can get and it comes with all the bits you would ever want... and has been luckily enough to be owned by "gentle driving polishers" rather than "hardcore drivers" (self included) so benefits from that, plus the reassurance that you can trace (and speak to) every owner from the builder to date.
I thought £18,500 was a sensible price for a quick private sale on 18th December between snow showers. Anywhere around £20k(ish) is going to be as good as money in the bank for the foreseeable future anyhow and anything above that is probably just the premium you pay for getting that car and for the security of buying through a Dealer, getting a warranty, paying for the salesman / showroom and of course allowing a bit for a trade in. Even so, it still seems a bit rich.

still represents a healthy premium over what I paid Caterham South for a younger factory built car with half the miles, lowered floors and higher spec. (though without the extra parts that may come with that one). But, as I said, if that's where the market is, even allowing for a dealer premium, I'm all for that - I am just surprised, that's all. Best of luck to them.
Hello chaps, was my car until 6 weeks ago. Yes it's strong money but it's also one of the nicest R300s I've ever seen and with the perfect plate. When I advertised it privately I had many offers at asking price which at the time was only slightly lower than Castle Lotus are now asking, and I believe they are servicing it and putting 4 x new CR500s on.
I only sold it on as I wanted something with a bit more mid range and top end grunt to make up for my lack of talent on track and have always wanted to scratch a Lotus 211 itch.
In my opinion, (I'm no expert but a serial Classifieds browser/petrol-head purchaser..!) good straight cars of all marques such as this are getting increasingly rare - a bit like the Lotus 211 that I part-exed it for; it was one of many I looked at and after viewing the others I paid a bit extra and bought this particular one as it was nice and straight, nice history, top condition with no horror stories and original panels. I could have bought a cheaper one but would have compromised on the condition/provenance.
So, I agree - it's top money but judging by the responses I had to my private ad before I chopped it in with Castles you are unlikely to take much of a hit on it if/when you come to sell, and Ben at Castles will in my experience look after you on the purchase, I had a couple of minor niggles on shakedown (the 211 had been stored for a while) which he agreed to sort without issue.
I actually miss it..! Anyone want a nice 211??!
Cheers,

Agree with all of that condition-wise, and that is always high on the priority list when buying - but it is still an ambitious price for what is [playing devil's advocate] a ten-year old Caterham with at least average mileage. It's not even in a particularly strong colour.
I would've expected it to be around £21-22k given what else is around, but as the saying goes, it's worth whatever someone - just one someone - is prepared to pay, so fair play on that front.
And it has to be said, the market hasn't been exactly flooded with decent R300s of late so it has that on its side too.
I'm intrigued - purely being nosey - why 240Cup didn't sell it privately at the asking price (22.5k) if the offers were there though!?!

It's a fair question, it all got a bit complicated.
I posted the ad, unsure as to how quickly it would sell and embarked on my search for its replacement. Had the offers in immediately, but advised the interested parties I couldn't let it go until I had something in the garage to replace it but would endeavour to conclude a.s.a.p.
Nearly pushed the button on an Exige 260 Cup but got messed about by a broker until I made contact with the owner directly, trekked up North to view it, nearly did a deal then got distracted later that week by some nice Lotus 211s in the Classifieds.
In the meantime wife gave birth (4th child hence me needing a toy in the garage for the odd stress relieving blat...!) and I struggled to find the time to pin down a suitable car. The first buyer who I had agreed in principle to sell to, gave up waiting (to be fair he had been more than patient with me and it was nearly a month by then since the ad went live) and bought something else. I had another buyer lined up (one of the other offers which had come in initially) when I eventually got to view and drive the perfect 211 at Castles and then was surprised by them making it nice and easy by taking it in p-ex.
Get it bought..!

Ok, it's a 13 year old thread bump but I see my old R300 SLT is back on the market.
I sold it in 2011 for £18,500, the thread was discussing whether it was worth around £24k in 2013 and it's now listed at £22,950.
Still seems like it's in great condition from the advert as well. Advert
