If you are entitled to free prescriptions what do you need to show the chemist to prove this?
The reason I ask is that when my OH goes to the local supermarket to get her prescription she is asked whether she pays for them and always answers Yes. In response to this she is told that she is one of the only ones and most don't pay. She has seen people tell the chemist that they don't pay but they don't ask for any proof of this.
Do chemists just take people's word for it as of course everybody would be honest!!

They have your address, so the records are checked and you're sent a fine if you weren't entitled to a free prescription.
Lots of people (like me) will have a pre payment certificate so you don't pay at the chemist, again if you tick the box saying you have pre paid the records are checked and you are sent a fine if you don't have a certificate (if it runs out you can retrospectively renew it up to a month later). If you get a couple of items every month on prescription then pre payment works out cheaper.
