Bloomin' thing just sheared off!

Where can I get another (or an alternative)?

I assume I am OK to drive avec roof as it's held on by the tangs and the driver's side panel?

here you go

I think this is the only place that has them - was looking for one myself but managed to repair mine with a longer screw and washer.

Or if you ask southco they'll tell you where you can get them (p/n E8-10-502-20) according to the parts list smile

Hi Norman & Gary,

See attached the data sheet for the stainless latches. There is a bewildering array of options and it's
easy to order the wrong thing!

What you need is the type with "hook" and "exposed base". These fit on the existing mounting pads
on the roof panels and will latch on to the existing keeper on the windscreen frame. If you wished to
use the type with "concealed base", then you would need to fashion new pads and move the screw
locations.

The two main candidate useful types are:

1. 91-552-52 This is the basic type latch, stainless with hook and exposed base

2. 91-562-52 This is the same but has an additional secondary catch. The advantage of the secondary
catch is that it stops the latch rattling or popping loose when driving on bumpy roads. The downside is
that it does not have such a clean appearance.

You may find that you need to trim the vertical sides of the base slightly to get clearance for the screw
heads. Careful use of a junior hacksaw and small file will sort that.

I paid about £30 for a pair delivered from zygology.com, but that was about 5 years ago now!

I'm sure you could do your usual good job Norman and get a few folks together for a group order.

Cheers, Jonathan

NCoT,
What on Earth are you doing driving around with the roof on? nono

You are only allowed to put the roof on if the storm has a name!

Is the rs one the same, and comes with both parts? I ask as it's half the price!

Chaps, can anybody confirm this?

It looks like the screw holes are the other way round in the pic and the one in the car doesn't look like it wants to rotate...

I bought mine from there when I replaced one a couple of weeks after I got the car, it's exactly the same and came with the bit that screws to the car.

They definitely turn round smile

I gather these clips were put in to stop any chance of the roof coming off in an accident, no other reason. Do you think these plastic clips would have any effect? I dont! I thought about where my head might go in an accident and decided I didnt want the clip just there! If the car rolls the clips wont do any good either.
The clips were poorly secured, on a bad angle, and break too easily (isnt that why we keep changing them?). After breaking two I thought hard about it and took the whole unsatisfactory after thought off! When the roof panels are retrimmed next winter the holes will be filled and covered.

I understood the clips were to stop the front edge lifting and the panel being sucked off the car at motorway speeds, as someone on here described,
the vacuum was like his ears were about to burst plus roof panel lost under the wheels of a following vehicle.
With body flex the short pegs locating in the screen do seem a bit insecure.
Although I have managed a few thousand miles with no clips up until now, most it has to be said was with the roof down in the time honoured tradition as per Glenrobbo...!!

Cotty on here lost a roof panel at speed from his S2. Some padding might be in order to protect my bonce but I am keeping the catches. Gawd knows where you'd get roof panels from now...

I wonder why the cars mentioned, that lost panels, were at all loose? Mine is an 'old' car, 1988 S1, and the roof is so tight that I have to use a lot of force to lock out the roof stays. Given that the roof stay bars have so much leverage I am really surprised the panel could come out. Mine are absolutely tight at *** mph on the motorway and even during an unscheduled airborne adventure on the old A6 north of Kendal. Did the cars that lost a panel have another problem I wonder?
Maybe on other S's the roof stays do not lock out so tightly?

Thanks chaps, two arrived from RS yesterday, easy 30 sec fix!

Worth mentioning, don't try to rotate them, you need to take them off the roof panel in order to turn the catch 180 degrees for some reason!
