Backing up my kidney stones post.
Prefer pain mostly to the horrible pain killers so avoid where i can.
Now pethidene is apparently the best pain killer for my symptoms, picking up my script involves providing id and signing special forms.
Now the script says 2 x 50mg 4 times a day and the max in one script is 20? 20?? FFS thats 2.5 days so if i took as prescribed it would cost me 12 scripts a month at near £8 a pop.
Just under £100 a month! Something wrong here or what?
I understand apparently some take these for pleasure, (god knows why the dehydration and wonky head is awful).
Ah well, musn't grumble. Not like i don't pay enough in tax and NI already. Really is a tax on the ill.
(There are alternatives such as the prepay but i really don't get ill often).

surely as you have to get lots of prescriptions for painkillers, you should go the route of 'pay a yearly charge and get your prescriptions free' no?
thats a pre pay and its a hundred odd, so in the long run it might be cheaper for you, as you never know when you are gonna get kidney stones.

slightly off topic - but question for the op - can you take anti inflammatory medicines, as these are often more effective for renal stones than opiods.
I also take 'Buscopan'. I asked the doctor about alternates but he said pethidine is the best option.
Horrible stuff
generally just suffer when the pain flares up, which isn't often but gradually getting worse and longer.Seeing consultant Tuesday so will ask about any alternates.
