I started this model over a year ago and it's finally finished!

Here's the kit..

It was pretty easy to build, not that complicated but it is big so there's a lot of area for spraying. I was quite pleased with the result though.

Really nice. The camo demarcation and upper/lower lines are spot on - nice bit of masking.

Looks great, brings back memories as I did my apprenticeship at RAE Farnborough where they had a few & worked on them both during & afterwards.

The camo took a while to do, I used a template for getting the curves right. It was time consuming but worth it.

It's interesting to hear from someone that actually worked on them. I was surprised they were in service for so long, I guess that's the mark of a good aeroplane design. I've read that it was designed as the replacement for the Mosquito.

They had amazing performance, especially when you consider the time they were developed and built.

The last versions in service were the PR9s which were even more impressive with almost U2 like high altitude capabilities.

The version you've modelled is a B(I)8 which, ironically, was designed specifically for low level operations - which shows the versatility of the design.

They used to fly up to Lossiemouth & Aberporth for bomb testing on the ranges. They always came back from Lossie smelling of fish, apparently a standard bomb load was some Abroath smokies on the return journey!
