nearly 60% attrition over 6 months...would you be worried?
Discussion
Team I work for. 5 of the people have sodded of. Naturally my workload has gone through the roof.
Now someone else is looking to jump ship....
I am very worried here......I myself have had my doubts but have rolled with the punches. But with kiddo on the way this is really not how I saw myself career wise....
Something is broken here right? New hires cant pass approval quickly either due to redtape.
What would you guys do? They wont bump me up or offer a payrise due to redtape elsewhere.

Why did the others leave? What doubts have you had about your position?
You say they won't alter your conditions because of red tape but I'm sure something could be done if you get the right person to push for it. If you can imagine yourself at this company long term it sounds like the perfect time to have a chat about your concerns and to ask for a development/progression plan to be put into place. They are unlikely to manage you out if the workload is already backing up.

Get used to it, or find another sector.
Right now we're about 2 weeks into Q3 (for most banks) - and we're also at the start of the holiday season. There's probably not an official hiring freeze, but there will be so many temporary gaps in the approval chain that very little will happen. Then you'll get to September, and be ready to get approval to offer and then the official hiring freeze will kick in until the New Year. Getting hired into an Investment Bank after June 30th really is the exception.
As for workload - find your own way of coping - it's not going to go away.
Personally, I'd stick with it. It's a fun sector to be in, and once you've found your feet, work can be really enjoyable.
However, don't over estimate the competence level of management, and don't make the mistake of thinking their motivation follows that of a "normal" person, and you'll be fine. Many managers are currently being scored on how many roles they move to "centres of excellence" - that's it. Nothing related to quality of the service they deliver or anything like that - purely measured on meeting numbers.

If you are down to a couple of people a bit of a "frank and honest" discussion with your boss might be in order. Nobody is indispensable, but if it makes their life hard enough for you not to be there you might get something out of them.
Do the work of 1 hard working highly efficient well trained and motivated person. Which is twice the work of someone pissed off, and 4 times someone who is working their notice. Work NO overtime, unless paid. Spend the 1st 5 minutes of your bosses day telling him the priorities you are going to achieve today, and achieve them and if he attempts to dump more on you, tell him which of the priorities are now having to be bumped until tomorrow. If you are asked to work unpaid overtime, agree, but the following day, always ask to leave early, "as I need to go to the bank before it closes" or other excuse. If there is any problems with this invent reasons why you can't stay late today, but you'll sort it first thing.
They don't have enough trained motivated staff, so you are not about to get sacked for doing a full days work properly, and as you ain't going to get promoted there is no point to the stress of extra hours : Just make sure you work hard for the time you are there.
Meanwhile look for a new job, in case it all goes tits up.
