Pretty good review, but even he comments on the slow-shifting gearbox (albeit in a subtle way).

The gearbox will stay slow and classic, until they come with a real deecent gearbox (Manual or Dual Clutch).

I think the best we can hope for is the 8 speed ZF unit as used to such great effect in the F-Type (and Bentley GT etc). Apparently AML are well down the queue for them though, but this car should have been launched with it frown

Not one reviewer has complained about the F-Types auto box. Must be a huge leap forward.

It is.

Sadly, it's like night and day compared to what AM has to offer.

I agree. I drove the F-type a couple of weeks ago and as far as automatic transmissions go it is brilliant.

When you say well down the queue what does that actually mean in terms of the supply side? Is it that ZF can't make enough so those that pay most get the box, or that the box needs modifying to fit the AM engine and they won't pay enough to have that done, or the numbers being talked about are so small it is not worth retooling for when Jag and Bentley are buying enough to keep the line going to capacity, or something else?

I'm curious how come if AM genuinely want the 8 speed box in the car they can't have it?

With Sportshift beng yesterday's box compared to PDK, AM should be setting aside a fair chunk of their available investment budget in the gearbox department. I hope they have enough!

That is my understanding.

The box is I think also in the 7 Series BMW and sevreal other top line cars; they simply don't need AML as a customer at the moment. Let's hope it's nothing more insidious than that...

Haven't watched it yet. What's wrong with aluminium? Unless he says it 'aloominum' in which case he's a knob. As for rims... I'd be less likely to take on board what a car reviewer says if he uses terms like that.

He does.

The whole review is cringeworthy.

It's a Brit doing a review for the yanks. If he said Alum-in-ium they wouldn't know what he was on about.

I thought it was rather good. Didn't like his tie though.

yes

LR also demonstrated a 9 speed version at the Geneva motor show.

Just seen that on the ZF website.

I have a genuine question. Both my Disco and RR have this box. Is this the exact same box that would go in the Vanquish or would there be differences?

You do realize this "knob" you're referring to is a Brit born in Sussex whose dad is Derek Bell. He (like his dad) has more racing accomplishments in his life than you can ever hope to achieve in your lifetime. Please stop fulfilling the British stereotype with petty comments such as the proper pronunciation/spelling of aluminum. rolleyes

P.S. his dad won Le Mans five times, the Daytona 24 three times and the World Sportscar Championship twice. He also raced in Formula One for the Ferrari, McLaren, Surtees and Tecno teams.

I'm not sure if you meant to quote me as I didn't refer to him as a knob.

However, I do stand by my remark that the review is cringeworthy.

And yes, I know who he is.

If he is English, he should really know how to speak the English language then.

Not me cousin,I've seen the film with James Cagney singing "I'm a Yankie Doodle Dandy " had me near to tears
By the way cousin, speaking of bigotry why is it so difficult for Brits to get a green card to the States ,we're not even allowed to take part in the green card lotteries.
Apologies for straying off topic.
