Boxster 981 and Auto Dim Mirror with mesh wind deflector

Does the auto dim mirror work when the mesh wind deflector is in place?
There is obviously a rear facing light sensor somewhere in the mirror assembly to detect bright lights from behind and then activate the dimming, does the mesh hinder this.

The sensor doesn't detect bright lights... It detects falling light levels and dims the mirrors when it's dark. Can be a bit of a nuisance, actually.

Besides, you will probably swap the mesh deflector for a clear one before long.

Does it not measure difference in light intensity between the front and back of the mirror unit?

The light sensor on the back of the mirror is to the right of the on/off button on the mirror and there is another on the windscreen side.
The mirror switches to anti dazzle or back to normal state based on the light intensity at the rear compared to the front.

This will still work based on the light intensity differental whether wind deflector is in place or not...

Thanks for that. I had one on a Octavia VRS and it was very effective but would not work with the rear mesh sunblind up.

Hi Malc,

There is no way for the mirror controller to know if the winddeflector is in place or not - it just comes down to the amount of light coming through the blind, and onto the sensor. However, I guess the calibration of the amount of light against the amount of dimming effect could be not to your liking, but there's not much that can be done about that case I'm afraid!

+1 for the clear wind deflector too.
