Hair clipper recommendations

I like to keep my hair short in the summer and I'm a bit fed up of paying a tenner every two weeks for a haircut. Any recommendations for a budget of £40?

If you just want a straightforward short cut then get them. If you are thinking you can taper your hair yourself, then forget it.

I bought a rechargeable one as my original wired one kept getting tangled with my arms.

I've been using a set of Remington Ceramic clippers for the last 13 years. I calculate that I've saved over £2500 in that time. (Cutting my hair at least every 2 weeks, if not weekly)

Do mine every few weeks with a cheap Amazon set, slap on grade 1 guard and go over it all in the direction it grows followed by a few passes to get any remaining long bits, tidy around ears with shaver clippers, then get someone else to straighten the back/sides with shaver clippers.

Trying to do it yourself with two mirrors and figuring out up is down and left is right makes for some interesting outcomes!

I use one of those rotary palm held babyliss clippers, works well enough to get a zero all over.

Yes, just goes down to the wood. It would be difficult to injure yourself unless you're REALLY clumsy, and it's actually easier in some ways because it's harder to miss a bit when it's THAT short

I bought some Babylis ones in 1994 and still use them today. They have been faultless.

The thing is, you can never be sure that production quality has been maintained over such a long period.

I have, WAHL have lasted well over 10 years. Keep 'em oiled after every use (I use them about once every 3 weeks).

Which oil do you use? I still have a set which needs doing, and it came with some but its ran out.

Wahl all the way.

I had a couple of sets of Philips ones that were re-chargeable but they wore out after a year or so.

I got a set of Wahl ones off Amazon with the express intention of finding something that could be used in a professional hairdresser - mains powered, proper job.

They're heavy but work and are made well.

As for difficulty; this is a car website. If you can't shave your own head with a pair of clippers then you certainly are not suitable to have a driving licence.

You need someone to do your neck hair though

I've wondered about going that short. I'm doing about 10mm at the moment.
