Do hearing aids annoy dogs?
Discussion
Bit of a funny question here but I have a 1 year old male Dobermann. He doesn't mind one set of neighbours, they can do what they like, stomp about, have parties, whatever, he doesn't bat an eye lid. My neighbour on the other side however is a completely different kettle of fish! For reasons unknown, but becoming slightly clearer, the dog absolutely hates her! As soon as she makes any noise whatsoever, the dog goes mental and seems to be tracking her through the wall and pacing back and forth. The side return on our house is on the same side as hers and the back door of her property is on the side whereas our kitchen has been extended and has doors leading on to the garden. If she's open her door or goes outside the dog goes bonkers!
At first we wondered if the dog thought that part of the house was an extension to ours, but as he tries to climb the wall, we think he knows it's not part of our house.
The only distinct thing about the lady next door is that she is 81, has the worlds most irritating voice (Sounds like the Nanny out of Count Duckula if you remember that) and is deaf, so not only speaks at loud volumes, has the TV up etc etc, she wears a hearing aid. When I first met her, she said she takes them out at night time, so never worry about disturbing her at night and worry about noise etc. Funnily enough, the dog doesn't do the tracking thing or attack the wall by her door early in the morning before she's up or after she's gone to bed. Yesterday afternoon, she was at her next door neighbours house in the garden and we could quite clearly hear her annoying voice, but the dog sat quietly and ignored her. This is the first time he hasn't gone bonkers when she's outside. If she's outside, we have to bring the dog in as he cicles and barks continually.
Baring in mind her sleeping patterns when we know the hearing aid is off, and the fact we could hear her yesterday but was further away, we're almost convinced her hearing aid whistles at a pitch that annoys the dog. We've had a number of guarding/protecting/territorial issues and literally any noise sets him off, but she seems to be his nemesis.
Does anybody on here wear a hearing aid and found it annoys the dog?

My Dad was quite profoundly deaf towards the end of his life, and his hearing aids would whistle.
I think it's a 'feedback' whine due to a poor seal between the device and the ear.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is the issue - perhaps you could get ear defenders for the dog when the old bat's about?
