GB/NI Driving Bans
Discussion
Found some info today about this, and remembered seeing something similar on here a couple of days ago, but can't find it now. Anyway, here's the info (although I don't have the AoP it comes from):
DRIVING DISQUALIFICATIONS BETWEEN GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND
From 11 October 2004, a package of measures centred on driving disqualifications will come into effect. These measures will enable:
Recognition in Great Britain of disqualifications which were imposed under Northern Ireland jurisdiction.
Endorsement of GB counterparts issued to NI licence holders. A NI driving licence holder may apply for a GB counterpart. This can be kept with their NI licence and will allow them to avail themselves of a fixed penalty endorsement if appropriate for the offence committed.
Revocation of a NI licence in conformity with the Road Traffic (New Drivers) Act 1995.
Revocation of a NI licence on grounds of disability and prospective disability.
Removal of the opportunity for an individual to simultaneously hold a GB and a NI licence without breaking the law.
Removal of the provisional driving licence anomaly that allows the holder of a NI provisional licence to drive as a substantive licence holder in GB.
Reciprocal provisions will come into force in Northern Ireland at the same time as those made in Great Britain.
Please note that GB drivers who are disqualified in NI will have the disqualification held on their driving record as offence code N109. This is a non-endorsable offence code and will not show on their driving licence.
