Is it possible to make a DVD from .WMV files or do they have to be mpeg or avi ?
If so , any advice on the best way to transfer ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DVD's use mpeg2 files, so at some point a conversion must happen. I'm not sure what free converters there are now. When I get off the train I'll have a look.

Stu,

Ultimately you'll have to convert them to MPEGs, then use a program like Nero to create your DVD.

Try looking for a program called TMPGenC, which converts AVI/WMV files to MPEG. You will also need a program to extract a WAV file from the WMV (I use a program called VirtualDUB)

Greg

PS - I've got an excellent "How to" PDF on the home computer - want me to mail it to you?

Um......why on earth do you want to do this?

Basically I have lots of wmv files and want to send them to someone who doesn't have a PC, but does have a DVD.

So what's the easiest way.

Convert to mpeg then burn using Nero ?

Yeah, thats about it.

In short, I do the following:

1) Extract a WAV file off the WMV using VirtualDub;

2) Combine the WAV with the WMV to create an MPEG;

3) Create a DVD using Nero 6.

Works like a charm.

I'll mail you the How To tonight.

A good WMV related site once you wade through the detritus. Good links, too:
