It's nice to see that PH can support it's members in desperate times.

Could the offending posts not have been removed instead?

Exactly.

Really necessary?

So it boils down to what, money? One of the multi million pound charities didn't like what they saw? I'm sure we'd all like to hear the reason behind your decision - if I'm wrong.

Hey, remember that one time we helped raise a significant amount of money for the Air Ambulance?

I forgot about those ones and also I seem to recall helping out people like Emsman with the toylander, Red Victor and of course the constant appealing over XH558.

It's one of those threads where people on PH can support someone in a very difficult time.
Why was it Locked?

It appears to have been deleted. What did anyone say on it?
Or was it a case of the bloke asking to have it deleted himself?

Mobile Chicane made a harmless 'quip' about the mods having a siesta when it comes to moderating certain other charity-based threads - it even had a wink.

Kinky got the hump and locked it there and then.

It's not deleted.

Nice closing by Kinky as well. Bit harsh.

Anyhow, I'm going to follow the right channel and talk with Paul G, and I advise others to as well. You know what will happen here.

All moderation matters, etc all directed to Paul... forum discussion is bad... inconsistency good. Thread lock.

How has that gone from my watched threads list then? Was it deleted and reinstated?

Very odd that it was locked like that. Still assume it was OP request rather than that particular comment

PH doesn't allow fundraising in the forums unless it has been approved - otherwise the forums would be full of begging/sponsor me to this, that & the other threads.

let's face it, PH is now well known for being a soft touch & good source of charity donations

Anyone can create a profile and write a woe is me story to tug at the heartstrings & rip unsuspecting forum members off frown

All other threads have been approved by PH Management after checks (IIRC).

There have been lots of other threads locked when it has got to the 'lets donate' stage, please don't think it is anything against the OP & his son, as it is simply against the rules of posting.

So, here's the question... if the OP started another thread looking for support, would that be immediately closed?

Support of what kind?

Advice - unlikely there would be a problem with that.
Asking for monetary contributions - unless previously approved by PistonHeads then likely to get closed.

None of that is relevant anyway. The thread wasn't going in that direction and that can't be why it was closed.

Yes, it was me that closed it and I accept full responsibility for doing so.

The thread was closed as it was continually being hi-jacked as a charitable thread, which goes against the PH posting rules. Yes, there are exceptions to that, as PH does support charitable threads and requests, but these are usually requested and given approval. The last thing we want is for PH to be inundated with charity threads. Yes, we all have thoroughly deserving causes, most of whom are close to our individual hearts.

When I first saw the thread take a turn, I deliberately overlooked it for the weekend, so that it could be given some 'airtime' on PH, before closing it. However, I was abused for that. And then getting further abuse for facts which are incorrect. Yes, posts were removed and/or edited and this was explained to the people concerned. However, they continued to abuse that. In hindsight, I wish I'd just locked it there and then.

And if there are other charitable threads on PH, if they are reported, or I see them, then I'll simply remove them on sight, as per PH posting rules ... as opposed to actually being a little bit human, considerate and supportive, and 'not seeing' it for a few days.

Surely it could be re-opened with your above post.
It did not set out as a charity case and I would not even say that there was a proper appeal, a few people felt sorry and offered to help out, I really don't see the big deal here, for the record I didnt give any money and never felt in the slightest that I was being pressured too.
I urge you to re-open it but again state no fundraising allowed and keep a close eye on how it progresses.

Perhaps I've missed it but why weren't the aove rules explained in the thread (or to mobile chicane) and a request to stop the charity aspect of it?

I saw that thread more as a way for Skyline Man to vent and get some pro bono advice.

I have been urged smile

The thread is now open.

And for the record, there were posts removed/edited from the thread asking for donations, etc. Which is why it does 'not appear' to be a begging thread.

So lets move on, back on track, vaguely within the PH posting rules and all that.

Thank you.
