What do they look like and how are they adjusted on a 4.2 ? Connected up to a laptop and one side seems a bit high.

They are located on the front/top of each bank of cylinders, single black wire going to the top(mine says throttle pot on a the wire on a little yellow sticker). Held in place by 2 small screws. Simply loosen the screws and turn the pot in either direction to get the desired reading.

Sorry I can't post some pics, but I'm sure some helpfull bod will!

Hope this helps,

Jo

If you at all unsure, then don't do it.
Search the threads, there is some good advice, but be aware that pot adjustment is fairly critical to the car driving as you want it to.

Have a good nose around the engine bay & familirise yourself with the bits 'n bobs. Get to know whats what & then make some adjustments.

Adapitve mapping takes some time to get your head round as well (well it did for me!)

Having found a AFR 1357 bad and doing a reset i have check again 100 miles later and same error is occuring. No other errors but the adaptive 1 is running about 24 @ 810 RPM and 2 is running at 11 so I think 1 is way to high. What should I be looking at to correct this problem, everything else seems to be within the correct values.

That is way out. You do have to be a little careful wit hthe thottle pots because at extreemes they seem to flick to the other end of the scale.

I rekon a change.

How much are they, I presume that I need to alter them with the ignition on and running the throttle pot setting screen. Thay do both seem to run at around 14 to 15% on this screen wwith the engine at idle.

I've got £30/£40 in mind. Might be wrong.

The part number is E1586 costing just £22.24

"S" owners have probably bought all available TP's to replace the useless Ford one

Mark.

It seems to me that you've got as much an idea to setting them up, as what I have. Why dont you take it somewhere for them to do it. Shouldn't cost much to set them up.

You just don't learn anything if someone else does it for you, I like to get as involved and do as much as I can, also helps to cut the costs a bit.

I know what you mean. Good luck.

If you sort it out, I might bring mine down for you to check mine

I'm coming down to Torquay in a few weeks time....

....although probably end going down in the ford due to having 4 in the car.

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=40939&f=6&h=0&hw=airflow

This thread had some pretty detailed instructions about setting up the throttle pots etc.

Setup the pots and everything seems to be better, but does anyone know where I can get a clip that hold the 3 pin connector to the top of the throttle pot, one of mine sprung off and I can fiond it.

The plugs on my cerb are the same as the one on the brake fluid resevoir, which is a Ford part. Used on many Fiestas and Escorts etc. Ford parts dept should be able to help.
