I'm off on hols to France in late Aug and need a roof top box for my car. Can anyone recommend a place that hires them out for a reasonable price? I guess I'll need it for 10 days or so allowing for pick up and drop off. Only place I've found after a quick google is in Southampton...are there any other choices? I'm in Portsmouth area.

It may be cheaper to buy in the long run, (I only need one maybe once a year) but wanted to see if hiring made more sense.

Cheers

What size are you after buddy? I have a long/thin one. Not too thin, but it made more sence for getting two bikes on the roof too. Won't be using it this summer.

Thanks guys, no I don't have a tow bar so a trailer's not for me.

Regarding size, I don't need a huge, full length, full width one, so a half width one sounds great. I have Thule wing bars, will your box worth with them? Much appreciated.

I can't see why it won't, to be fair, I don't even know the brand name for it, inherited from the parents when they upgraded vehicle, and no longer wanted roofboxes on there. Ill try and dig it out tonight, but your welcome to borrow it, no cost!

The wing bars use a T track system where the box has small fixings that slide into a slot on top of the bar. Older roof racks were just a square bar and boxes etc just clamp around the bar. An older style clamp won’t fit a wing bar.

I don't know if you're talking about the same type of bar, but I have Thule aero bars and a roof box with the clamps - works fine. The clamps have a very wide clamping range and I use the rubber strip to fill in the T track when I'm using the box and not the bike racks which have the T Track fitting.

I have the Aero bars too, I think the wing bars are wider still than the aero bars. Good to know the standard clamps fit the aero bars though. That will be useful.

Thanks for all your hints and tips guys. I've got the Thule Wing Bar 961 as opposed to the super posh wing bar edge that is flush with the roof rails. Its good to hear any model of box should fit

W4X LG, thanks for the offer, but I'm worried I'll be in breach of copy right ;-)

LouD86 you should have a PM
