W Motors Lykan Hypersport

All new Lebanese supercar reveals essential novelty doors in latest studio photos

"We want to produce the most expensive, luxurious and exclusive car ever made," says W Motors' Ralph R Debbas of the Lykan Hypersport.

You'll notice performance and driving dynamics don't feature anywhere in that statement, nor the video that followed its unveiling in concept form at the Qatar motor show in January. Debbas does boast, however, that the Lykan will be "the first car in the world with LED encrusted diamonds" and white gold in its headlights. And you thought Audi was getting carried away with the whole lighting-based bling thing... Obviously if diamonds aren't your thing you can have sapphires, emeralds or rubies according to the finished colour of your Lykan, just seven of which will be built.

Diamonds in the headlights, promises Debbas

Debbas does confirm that the Hypersport will have 750hp from its Ruf-sourced engine, hit 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds and top out at 247mph. And if this all sounds a bit hyperbole heavy there's a clip of a room full of studious looking people studying CAD screens to prove that the car is real.

Indeed, ahead of the production version's debut at the Dubai motor show in November a new studio shot showing off that supercar staple - novelty doors - has been released. Lambo does scissors, Merc and others gullwings leaving W Motors few options in this regard. So it's gone for the reverse-hinged 'suicide' look.

It is, to quote a press release: "Compact and muscular, timeless and distinctive. A true statement of exclusivity."

For more evidence of this you can, if you wish, check out The Making of a Supercar - Episode Two on OSN on July 22 at 1905h (UAE time).

If you can't wait for that see here.

I like that lot.

Price it right and it will sell.

Seem to be a lot of niche supercars coming out at the moment from countries we never knew they had it in them.

How much are they going to have to cost each if they're only making seven?! I can't imagine they're going to be spending much on development...

It looks alright in that OTT form-over-function Lambo sort of a way.

Money can't buy you taste!

That video is the very definition of a vanity project. Like in the PH text above, the emphasis is on building an expensive car, not a good car. Anyone with money can build an expensive car.

What I don't get is the luxurious bit - why not build a big GT or a 4 door? Mid engined sportscars aren't a good base for luxury.

Well, at least they're being honest about aiming their product solely at chaps who are partial to a spot of weekend falconry, and the ROW can like it or lump it, unlike certain other supercar manufacturers whistle

Hold on. 7 cars. $3.4m each. That comes to just under $24m revenues.

I'd love to see their business-plan as I really can't see how they can develop and produce AND make a decent profit for that amount.

He looks like a fool anyway.

That's what I'm struggling to get my head around, how they can do all that for circa £15.6M.

Presumably it's going to be a parts bin special with the parts they do design like the body and specific chassis components being conventional technology-wise and thus fairly economical to produce.

It's mildly alarming that the first thing Debbas mentions in that quote isn't the performance or the dynamics, but the fact they want to make it the most expensive car ever produced. I could achieve that quite easily by sticking my Rover in the PH classifieds for £200 million.

hillarioous how they forst bang on about 0 to 60 in 2.8 secs then blab on about white gold led diamond incrusted headlights...

It will probably sell just because it is made by people with a specific Customer in mind who will play the loyalty card.BVut to be honest, its a bit of a joke. The styloe is rubbish, it looks like a cross of all the supercars of 3 years ago, there is blatant plagerism going on here.

It's built by an Arab for Arabs. It's focussed at a very narrow market of rich young men from the Arab states who can be seen around Knightsbridge every year showing off their ever-more flamboyant supercars.

It only needs to be 'exclusive', 'expensive' and look even more flamboyant than an Aventador.

He hopes.

Well if they're making 7 then it won't be the most exclusive by a factor of more than 2.

Lamborghini made only 3 Veneno's (€3.1m each) and they've all been sold.

Ha, take that Common As Muck Lykan Hypersport!

So a few things... $3.4m is a heck of a lot of cash to part with for a car from an unknown manufacturer. I also reckon it'll be parked outside a posh hotel/shop/restaurant for all of 20 minutes before an opportunist comes along, smacks the front with a hammer and walks off with $1,000,000 worth of diamonds.

Brainless.

And it doesn't even look that good.

Indeed, his suit, shirt and tie mirror the car: no doubt they too are handmade, to his precise spec and from the finest and most expensive materials, but the result is still naff and predictable sleep
