I'm currently using a pair of fairly battered Tri shoes which are starting to get tatty and have a few blood spots on. I clearly need something new and shiny but have no idea where to start.

I can't justify buying £250+ shoes so need something reasonably good value (maybe £75 or so) that will last me a few more years.

The dhb carbon shoes look ok at £70 but as I can't try them or touch them i'm unsure. Can anyone throw any suggestions my way please? I need to fit my shimano SL cleats to whichever I get.

Wiggle do free returns so you can buy one, (or a few different ones in different sizes) and return anything you dont like!

If you want a bargain Fizik shoes are on sale all over the place. R3 - £220 carbon soled beauties, I got in a half size for perfect fit for £85 from ribble.

I saw those Fiziks and nearly pressed the go button on them, awesome value, but alas I recently bought some Northwaves from ProbikeKit for a steal and i should be focusing on buying the bits for my roadie haha

The Fiziks are a bargain although they've run out of whites in my size. Silver could be an option.

Is it a bit risky buying shoes online? I've also seen some Mavics at around £80 which are a carbon composite.

Yes, unless you know what you're buying. IME they're the most important "contact point" on a bike.
