Bet you can't spot them with "safety" cameras can you????

Another good argument for more plod on the road, applying discretion and keeping everyone SAFE. And that way you'll catch more car thieves, Road Tax dodgers, uninsured drivers etc etc etc. Oh sorry, that doesn't raise revenue does it?? But it would, cos you can fine them just as easily.....

driving test should be at least 3 times as long and more comprehensive (motorway, night, skid control, observation and anticipation all currently ignored), with the punter paying for it. would stop a lot of today's appalling drivers EVER getting licensed and killing people.

Hear hear, stop the barstewards and scrap their lumps of metal on the spot. Here in Germany they often close a section of motorway at night and feed EVERYONE through a check (usually at a services) trucks, vans, coaches and cars and they usually end up with a hundred or so vehicles which are not allowed to move on. They then have to open the m-way again as there's no room left at the services!

I find it staggering that these figures were released yet there is no public outcry.. .I mean, 1 in 4 cars on the road would effectively fail an MOT on safety grounds !! sh!t

Yeah, but 1/4 of the car owning population aren't going to cry out to ban their own cars, are they?

Hold your horses!

It was actually 1 in 4 cars that the inspectors stopped to look at because they looked old or poorly maintained. That's NOT the same as 1 in 4 cars on the road. I know that most of my non-pistonhead friends and acquaintances treat the annual service/MOT as the safety inspection and assume that the car is fit to drive for the rest of the year. Pi$$es me off no end.

That said, I think it's a poor state of affairs that this is tolerated and driving quickly in a well maintained car isn't.

Yeah, see my thread:

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=13106&f=57&h=0

They start off with a sensationalist headline to get everybody fired up and then spout a load of sh1t.
