964 Speakers ?

My 964 is in desperate need of a new set of speakers and I would like to fit them into the original housings or just use the old covers. The speakers are no longer available and I wondered if anyone could let me know a way forward.

It's a good few years ago, but I fitted Infinity Kappa 50.5CS for the front, and Infinity Reference 6402cf rears. These were notes I put on a thread when I fitted them :

The front fit straight in - but the housing for the tweeter needs turning upside down, otherwise you can't fit the original speaker cover on because the new tweeter is domed and is too tall. Main fronts go in with no problem.

Rears also fit OK, but again there is a problem with the housing - the speaker cone is a bit bigger on the Infinity which means it's fouled by the housing, and without fitting the housing you can't fit the grill (and it looks ugly). So you have to fit the speaker, then "stick" the housing over this - because it is stuck to the top of the screw heads it's high enough not to cause a problem - and the grills can then clip in.

I assume they're still made - were a big improvement.

I just got Bannings in G'ford to change the speakers and everything external stayed the same.

I also fitted so e speakers to my 964 (Rainbow Dreamliner units) and added to the speaker thread up on 911uk.com.

To be fair the original speakers weren't up to much but I like the original look. I eventually found a full set including fittings on eBay last month. To my surprise they were in great condition for there age and sound ok although I don't listen to much other than the sweet engine tones when I'm out..."sad I know"
