Now I know this is straight forward, but just incase,
There isn't a particular sequence or anything I should know is there?
Drop oil, change filter add new oil. Simple?

You have to be careful not to let the oil pump drain, I always prime mine with a tool like this

You have to whip the distributor out, but for a few extra mins work I think it's worth the peace of mind.

I think Adam removes one of the remote filter pipes and tops up the pump through that.

Because the oil pump drive is on the end of the distributor shaft. Or you could do what I do - disable the fuel pump (fuse / relay) and the ignition (king lead) and turn the engine over till the oil light goes out. Save mucking about re-checking the timing.

I knackered a starter motor trying to get an empty oil pump to prime like that

And the sump plug is fecking huge. So a 15" shifter is needed not sure of the size of plug.

I used the Adam Q method. I used an empty "Fruit Shoot" bottle filled with oil. Just squirt oil down the holes of the filter housing until you can't get any more in. Have the filter filled with oil, refit and start her up. Should have oil pressure straight away. Saves faffing with removing the dizzy.

I just change oil and filter as normal. Never had any issues.

my method was...

Undo filler.
Drain oil.
Once it goes to a dribble, re-fit sump plug & immediately fill with 5-6 litres of oil.
Then do the filter.

Always worked well for me. Just do it quickly.

You all seem to have missed the most important part... Dropping the sump plug or tools into, or kicking over the tub of used oil....
I never seem to be able to do an oil change without one or the other happenng!

..... or scalding hot oil making you drop the plug into the catch tank, then the catch tank overflowing and running all over the garage floor...

My method is to get the engine up to temp and whilst doing this, prefill the new filter. Keep tapping the new filter to burp it, and keep adding oil to it.

Then drop the old oil, but keep the old filter in place.

Refit sump plug, fill with new oil, then remove king lead.

Remove old oil filter, and screw on the new prefilled one.

Turn the car over until oil light goes out. Then refit king lead and fire her up.

Use a good quality 20/50 (VR1 or Millers), dump it every 3K miles.

My method of oil change is as follows:-

1. Set up home made ramp. (see picture)
2. Have a cup of tea.
3. Drive car onto ramp and warm up engine.
4. Have another cup of tea with a biscuit.
5. Remove filler cap.
6. Undo sump plug.
7. Cup of tea with sandwich and biscuits while oil drains.
8. Replace drain plug.
9. Remove oil filter.
10. Replace with new filter first filled with oil.
11. Have another cup of tea.
12. Fill engine with new oil (any 20/50 is ok as I don't believe in this quality oil lark.
13. Replace filler cap and check oil level on dipstick.
14. Go for a leak. (too many cups of tea).
15. Take car off ramp.
16. Warm up engine to running temperature.
17. Add a can of stp oil treatment.
18. Tell the Mrs to get the dinner ready.

PS. cups of tea can be substituted for beer.

Job done.
