Hi All

I have a 93 chim 430 done just 40K but mostly short runs. I am concidering replacing the camshaft, I have been informed that they wear so quickly they could be made by Cadburys! There is no sign of wear(tapping noises etc.) Am I wasting my time and money and is it a straight forward job with the engine in the car.

Thanks

Neal

Take it to Surrey Rolling Road before making a decision. Spending £40 or £50 might tell you that your engine's power output is fine, in which case you can spend the other £1000 on beer and hookers - or you could just squander it.

Agreed. A rolling road run should identify any issues. SRR know their stuff too - you'll be in good hands there.

Take your sump off and look up to see the camshaft. You can do a quick test for wear/ grooving.

Seriously; loads of good reasons to take the sump off, including to make sure the strainer is clear, but not to do this. You can see a few lobes (just) but hopeless exercise to confirm/eliminate a worn cam. Get the rocker covers off and use a dial gauge
