Water pump belt
Discussion
Just some info for anyone doing a search on how to change the water pump belt;
On early cars the water pump belt had a tensioner, on late ones there's no tensioner.
So firstly get the right length belt, or be prepared to take the old one in to match up.
This is how I changed it;
Cut the old one off, I used a small hacksaw.
Run the new belt around the small bottom pulley.
Run it as far round the top pulley as you can, starting from the pulley edge that's to the rear of the car.
You'll get it about a third of the way on.
Now, fingers out of the way!!!!
Ignition on, tap the start button to just turn the engine over a touch. The belt should snap into place.
You could put the car in gear an push it forward, or use a big socket on the crank nut (if this is possible to get at?).
Took me about 5 mins and cured the queak/rattle I had just behind my left ear.
