Now back on board again and at handover I was given the AMOC envelope with the first years subscription free, all be it subsidised I believe by the dealer, now in essence thats
great but the area I would come under is 14.

With that said I looked on the web site to see that 14 is one of the largest and most rural regions covering Cambs,Lincs and Norfolk which is some serious square miles in anyones book.

So to cut to the chase the Rep for the area posts up about not having many regular meetings due to the mileage involved for many members and that they tend to meet
at organised events instead.

All fine by me but this got me wondering what benefit would it be to join if theres not a lot going on in the area, this led me to think how many on here fall into 14 and
are in fact members.

Sorry if this question is cretinous but I don't know a lot about AMOC but obviously pick up vibes occasionally on here that make you wonder.

Why is an area set up that is possibly geographically to big for its own good and would I be right in assuming some or other areas are more active than 14.

Before I get slaughtered by any staunch AMOC members thinking I'm having a pop, please I'm not I'm seriously contemplating joining and would prefer to know my region,
its strengths and weaknesses as now fully mobile again it would be nice to partake and be supportive to Club and Brand in general.

I'm in Area 10 (Bucks, Berks & Oxon) so can't answer your specific question but I guess the answer to the one above is a question of volunteers to organise more smaller area groups. I enjoy the club yet don't go to many of my monthly meets so they're not the be all and end all. I go to most of the concours events, I've been on tours to Reims and 2,100 miles through Europe to Lake Garda, I also go to some of the AMOC race meetings. Additionally the various magazines one gets as a member are excellent, there's a monthly A5 newsletter, a quarterly glossy colour mag and an annual magazine/booklet from the Heritage Trust, all to a high quality.

The geography of Areas is historic and we have similar problems down in Devon & Cornwall but to reduce the size of the area geographically would mean small numbers of members. That could be the case in your area but not sure.

The areas are also very different with the type of events they hold. A lot do the traditional Noggin & Natter type of events whereas some, like mine, try to do a different type of event each month. Very much how the area rep believes what the members want or what he wants to do. One thing for sure each area is different.

However, in my view all should welcome new members. As Rich says a lot more to AMOC than just what the Areas do. Sign up and give it a go.

Thanks Rich,

Thats helpful and informative, sounds ok to me but are the events and Euro tours more for the pre Gaydon cars such as your beauty.
Whilst on your car that Brands Hatch pictures a belter, very nice indeed.thumbup

By the way I haven't posted on the AMOC forum as I thought it was a members only thing but I shall revisit and look again,it will be interesting to see if anyone
posts from within 14 off of here though.

Not at all, the tour consisted of a fantastic mix but plenty of modern Gaydon cars, DB9s, V8 and V12 Vantages, Vanquishes etc. Indeed it's often difficult keeping up with the young whipper snappers!

Here's a snap of the car park pre Monza track session, mine's on the left in the distance but you can see the mix of cars on tour.

Some sub-sections are members only while others are open to non-members, you will need to register though.

It does seem to depend on area. Mine is very good at the monthly pub meet, but there is precious little else. However the number and variety of other events which I either would not have known about or would not have had access to has overall been worth it. I have been to the concours, which you have to be a member to compete, but can attend as a non member as well as after other things in different parts of the country as it suited.

Could suggest you attend the autumn concours, but that is a few months off yet in October, otherwise we are making he trip for the weekend to join the run down to Wilton House, starting early Saturday, overnight in Salisbury and Wilton on Sunday on August 3rd /4th and are in Essex, so a run away. Not strictly an AMOC event I don't think, but I would not have found out about it other than the magazine.

Depends on what you are looking for and what your area seems to organise

Hope that helps.

Your profile says you are in Lincolnshire? May I ask which part? HQ tend to allocate you to the area related to you postcode, which isn't always the ideal one when it comes to your nearest meetings!

I am the AMOC rep for Area 3, which covers Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland. It's a pretty big area covering Burton upon Trent to Skegness and The Humber to (roughly!) Spalding.

We try to be a very active area although we are a little short on events this year to avoid clashes with the various centenary bashes. We hold two meetings a month - one for the westerly members, usually somewhere near Derby/Loughborough, and one for the easterly members which is more often near Newark / Melton Mowbray / Grantham.

I'm not looking to poach you from Colin's area but if you believe you are allocated to the wrong area, just let HQ know or drop me an email at area3@amoc.org.

Edited to add ... having looked at your other topic, I see you are near Bourne so not far from me! I suspect it's a bit hit and miss as to whether you are allocated to Area 3 or Area 14. We have seven Area 3 members in Spalding but you sit right on the border between the two areas....

Arrgh..now there's a brilliant idea idea if ever I heard one Tony.

Enthusiasm I have a plenty.
Organisational skills without a doubt.
Cake is plentiful to share.

All sounds pretty convincing to me other than the fact that Mrs C has just taken great pleasure in pointing out that
I don't have the intelligence to even know where I live, even on a good day and that I'm a complete and utter tw*t.

You see I'm in Area 3...........hehe Oh what sort of retard am I.getmecoat

Thanks Stephen for posting up as well to compound the issue and I'm PE10 if that does indeed fall under your jurisdiction,
may be you'll take me on board at let be in charge of route planning as that should be good for a laugh on my present form.

Oh well thats brightened up Saturday night in our house anyway, the Wife's now got enough ammo to take the piss all week
and I've just sat and P*ssed myself laughing.

Never mind I'll just fill in the form and send it back and let AMOC squabble amongst themselves to see who wants to land up with the Brain of Britainwhistle

Your Edit Stephen has made me feel an awful lot better thank you,see I knew what I was on with all along, now where's that bloody woman gone.readit
