....without removing the steering wheel was either lying, has a different steering wheel to me or damaged their rev counter/steering wheel/dash in the process I just spent half an hour huffing and puffing trying to pry it out with the aid of some soapy water (having taken the rubber off lip off it) and it's now basically jammed half way. And I just burnt my microwave popcorn...everything is going wrong.

I think you can remove it without removing the wheel if you don't have the OBC - otherwise the wheel has to come off?

You can do it without taking the steering wheel off but the best way is to remove the speedo first. You can then get your hand behind the rev counter to push it out. You also need to remove the cowling from the steering column switch.
