AFM - ok to run disconnected ?? Clean Regular ??
Discussion
Griffith 5ltr wont rev freely & not beyond 4k rpm. Disconnected the AFM and runs like a dream (apart from idle which is a bit rough - to be expected). I fitted the current AFM in 2009 after some serious lumpy running.
I'm in Madrid & need to find a can of AFM cleaner before taking the meter apart but have 2 Questons :
Q1 : Can I run with the AFM disconnected for an extended period (ie next weekend planned a 350mile trip) ?
Q2 : Does anyone clean their AFM on a regular basis ? Service item ?

Dont run without it, the MPG will be terrible as the ECU has no fueling info, so it goes into "get you home" mode and runs on the throttle pot input only. They are not service items, but they do get really cooked in the TVR which cant be good for the electronics inside and you cant really clean them. When you get a new one, make sure its Genuine Lucas, not some nasty Chinese copy that looks exactly the same, but without the Lucas Logo.
Have you tried running without the long AFM to air filter pipe or without the air filter itself?
Perhaps it's the pipe collapsing or even the filter.
Having taken the cover off the electronics box on my old AFM I'm not surprised the electronics get cooked, and one thing circuit boards and electronic components hate is heat. I've got a heat shield on mine now and would recommend everyone has one.
The AFM can be tested to some extent. Have you checked it with a multi meter?

I've just ordered an extra heat shield also as I know you wanted one. Didn't know you had one.Perhaps it's the pipe collapsing or even the filter.
