Insurance for Nos fitted TVR's
Discussion
Hi All
Just received a kind and informative email from my current insurance company!
I hope someone out there can help. It looks as if I need to change insurance company as my current one has had a change of heart i fear, despite my understanding of them originally agreeing to the insurance so long as the Nos wasnt connected and active on the road, apparantly my email detailing this was "never received" and now they are saying i need to look elsewhere.
My sole intention and indeed current use has been at the Drag - Santa Pod (takes me back to my younger days) put in a 12.1 with wheel spin all the way to the 1/4 mile, for those who care. As i was blessed with some level of intelligence, i have no desire to use the happy gas on the road or on the track and am quite content to remove offending bottle from car and disable the system etc, this appears to have little or no effect on said insurer. I am perfectly happy to accept NO cover at the Pod - always was like that!, but come on guys - get reasonable!
The lack of understanding of Nos compared to Turbo/Supercharging is mind blowing. The fact that the latter offer a virtually permanent and equivalent or indeed increased delivery of BHP & Torque at a similar or slightly increased cost to a professional progressive Nos system and yet ARE insurable - is a farce! Although this is clearly NOT understood by the insurer in question!
Has any one got any ideas ive phoned quite a few insurers, so far they all seem pretty anal - help would be much appreciated. URGENTLY
In the meantime ive carried out a partial de-install totally disabling the system to ensure the vehicle is covered - bloody marvellous!
On the other hand I could bolt a GMC350 Blower straight on top producing double the power output of the former Nos install, accidently drive into a wall and get my gf to make a full claim - just to piss them off!!!
Many Thanks

Ps. Think twice about posting your TVR's performance figures on Piston Heads - these nice chaps spend their time scanning our comments looking for the kill. I am seriously considering posting a Name and Shame - after due diligence with my wig waring associates.

Just a thought then...TVR Power are now offering NOS as a option, and i'm guessing that when people understand about NOS and dispell all of the myths about it, that they will start to consider this option to boost performance etc.
What would happen if a manufacturer put NOS on a production car, would it be uninsurable???

Bad news Griffany, there are however a few other Griffnosi, met a chap with a 5.3 one on Friday , i'll ask him, do you get Sprint magazine as there are quite a few insurers advertising there, i have a couple of people to ask, will let you know.
Cheers Tim
Thanx Tim
If you could check it out with that other guy i would be grateful. ill re-check the insurers in back of sprint but i think ive been through them all
Anyone else would be a help. in the meantime i will try my old santa pod lot if ive still got their numbers, been using Nos for years although i know many didnt declare, i dont want to play that game!!
Peeps have suggested adrian flux etc but i found them not interested.
bummer, but im sure there is a solution somewhere,

Exactly my thoughts, its so frustrating, the irony is that more and more people will use it undeclared and take unecessary risks which affects all of us (i dont want to be hit by someone uninsured), the insurers could cash in if they got the pole out their keisters. their continuing ignorance is only surpassed by their premiums!!
GfiffNoNos
After everything I'm getting done to her, my insurance wont budge a penny... but they did say NOS will increase the premium from 30% to 75% in some cases, good job there wont be any need for NOS then...
Basically a group 20 supercar with NOS is like them handing out the money to you before you even crashed it.... From speaking to an insurance specialist - anything that is seen as potentially dangerous to the car as well as your safety - will pump up the premium (and NOS works in a much more spontaneous unexpected manner than turbos or supers, just try dumping 100-200shot now and again and you'll see what I mean) - plus have you ever seen what happens to a car when the NOS bottle decides to explode? f'in scary! like a dry fire! But it is hands down the best bang for buck per HP, but the insurance costs for some will most likely outweigh the deal in the long run.
