Hi All,

I believe that all Gaydon era cars should have a VIN number that starts with "SCF". Does anyone have a VIN that does not? Specifically - a VIN that starts with "5CF"? Does your UK DVLA issued V5 match the VIN?

Background is that my V5 does not comform to international VIN standards. I'm actually amazed that the DVLA would even issue my V5, since the first three letters are clearly not a manufacturer code...

Just wondered if anyone else was in the same boat?

Thanks!

We see many V5C/DVLA/VOSA database problems John. When the MoT scheme first went online we were having to build new data contantly onto the system as it is linked direct to DVLA. Ultimately its still down to human error reading/entering the original information incorrectly when the vehicle is first registered. Even now some 5 years on we still see VIN errors on vehicles that are coming to us for the first time - many of which have already been MoT'ed but the tester has not correctly checked the VIN number agrees with the VOSA database. You may need the car taking to a local DVLA office for the VIN on the car to be physically checked before they will issue a new V5C - good luck rolleyes

Wow, so someone manually types the vin number at some stage of the process, and typo'd a 5 for an S?

Awesome. Sometimes I think it's a miracle that this country ever left the dark ages smile

Whilst compiling my V12V Register I've come across afew errors with vins.
In answer to your question, yes, it should be SCF.
The DVLA are good at mixing S and 5 up, normally towards the end though as GS00999 would be erroneously entered as G500999 for eg.
I've also recently seen a whole digit missed so that the vin is only 16 digits instead of the industry standard 17.

If you've not already done so, please check the windscreen vin with your V5!
