19 inch alloys on 996 turbo without catching?

Hi all,
I just bought a 996 turbo and love it but have had a chance over the first couple of weeks to evaluate what is and isn't working on the car.
The car has been mildly turned by nine excellence and they've done great work, it's clear to see the potential of the car with some bigger turbos if you wanted to go that way.
On the flip side the previous owners fitted 997 turbo replica 19in alloys and although i quite like the look of them, the ride and handling has been compromised.
My main concern is that steadily (since I have owned the car) a crunch noise has been delivered from the rear near side wheel as it catches the car going over bumps. This is now catching to the point i've stopped driving the car and removed the wheel.
The arch lip is catching and cutting through the sidewall on the 295/30/19 pirelli p zeros. Clearly this is not good.
The aim of the thread is to see other people's experiences of running 19 inch alloys and tyres and whether this is quite common.
I'm concerned that perhaps the springs are also starting to sag which might be compounding the problem (it's an 04 996 turbo with 50k on the clock) but most of the major tuners I have spoken to have leant more heavily on the wheel side of things.
I'd also like to stress that I'm aware that fitting the standard alloys back on would probably correct a lot of these matters but the purpose of the thread is just to really see if anyone has had genuine success with 19in rims that don't catch or ruin the handling.

Very much sounds like an offset problem - possible that your car is on aftermarket copies of a 997 turbo wheel with the wrong offset for the car. I also run 315 section tyres on a 11 inch OEM rear wheel as do some other guys I hoon with and nobody gets rubbing or catching even with one of the cars running 315 and a 15mm spacer on the back.

That shows an ET of 45 for the original 11J rim, which means they stick out from the car 6mm more than yours of ET51 - BUT you have 17mm spacers. Swap the spacers for something smaller (but at least 6mm) and you should be fine.
