front pasenger side creaking/tapping sound

Just noticed a creaking/tapping sound coming from the front passenger side of my 2002 sl500.sometimes it does it when its not moving other times more so at low speeds up to 40.I have read about lubricating the bonnet latches but surely if that was the problem it would only make the noise when moving.
