Silverstone Classic 2013

I will be there from Thursday lunch time to Sunday night; it is quite simply the best event in my motor sport year. Immense grids- the Formula Junior race had , I think, 59 starters last year; huge variety- 1200 cars entered; extraordinary machinery- Mercedes and Porsche GP C cars, lots historic F1 including from 3 litre and 1.5 litre eras; terrific saloon cars - from grumbling V8 Galaxies to Lotus Cortinas to BTCC early years stuff ; and my personal highlight- late 60s and early 70s GT and sports cars- Lola T70s , GT 40s and at least one sublime Ferrari 512. Add in huge displays of road cars and access all areas policy(all pit garages are open to anybody ) and it's a recipe for petrolhead nirvana . I will be on the Lotus Seven club stand - where if you want to learn really far too much information about the relative merits of Rover K, Vauxhall, Duratec etc power a crack team of highly trained anoraks will be happy to deal with any enquiries...

Agree 100% and my Duratec powered anorak is already in the car...Gong down straight after work on Thursday and working till Sunday night - Might stay for the Chris Barber band but need to get home as can't have the Monday off right now.
As for value - 3 days of the best cars from all years driven properly, entertainments around the whole of the Silverstone complex, more car clubs than you realised there were makes of car and a couple of concerts thrown in - hard to think of anything that is better value try this:-
1 day at NEC car show - £15 (+)
1 Concert ticket - £30+
1 day at BTCC - £25
You are already at £70 and that was just Friday...
Honestly I have never paid to get into a motorsport event in my life yet would happily hand over the folding for this (if I wasn’t working and stuck in one place all three days

Cannot make it to this years event - financial constraints mean i cannot justify the expense - however in my opinion the ticket cost is worth it just to see the Group C cars in action.
I recall the Festival two years ago when, on the Friday evening it pissed down just before the Group C race started.
The sight of these stunning cars appearing through the gloom & throwing up big rooster tails of water behind them was one to behold.
Even swmbo - who doesnt enjoy racing at all - was impressed by the sight & sound of them - in particular the Jaguars.
I reckon that Mannasion will be epic this weekend in the XJR-14.
Will it, i wonder, be wearing its full Silk Cut livery? I hope so.

I am 99% sure that you are correct. I think that the other tubs ended up as Porsches!At one time there was a suggestion that there were no original cars left at all, until the one that is out this weekend appeared.
How many D types were built and how many are there about today

My recollection is that this car was displayed at Goodwood when Jaguar was the featured marque, though I cannot recall which year that was...2004 maybe? Long shot anyway!
This weekend will certainly be the first time an XJR-14 has competed in historics. The sight and sound of it against the C11 should be hugely evocative.
