I feel like i've broken my neck...
Discussion
...whilst lying in bed!
slightly embarrassing really! i was lying in bed this morning on my laptop, just shuffled slightly and felt the sharpest pain in the world in my neck. i now have very limited movement in my neck/upper back, and huge pain if i do try to move it. the pain is slightly to the left, and i can feel it from my neck down to just below my shoulders
any idea what i've done, and how i fix it?

I had the same, almost exactly. It was many years ago and couldn't even get out of bed the pain was that bad.
Wry neck (torticollis) was the verdict when I eventually got painkiller injection and had it x-rayed.
About 6 weeks physio, including traction on my neck later and it was almost better.
Still have problems with mu neck though even though it was over 20 years ago. I put that down to many years as a co-driver in rallies (helmet on, head down and being bounced around...apparently it's worn out)
So, take it easy, get professional help and do exactly what they tell you to. It will get better!
In the meantime, you have my sympathy!!

I had this about 3 years ago now, woke up, lifted my head off the pillow and my neck let out an almighty crack, got up went downstairs and my neck started spasming with the pain dropping me to the floor.
Anything other than led face down or sat bolt upright with pillows supporting each side of my head was agony, the missus had to go to the docs and get me some pain killers and muscle relaxants to ease it off.
Since then I've really had to concentrate on stretching my neck and back out to keep things flexible as I sit at a desk all day long.

Oh god, wry neck! Almost as bad as ruptured disc pain. Had both.
I've got a tad bit of the neck now while at PC and have to let go of the mouse to ease. Posture is vitally important but I found out too late! Years on I can manage both - exercise (gentle) being key in my case for both. Surgery avoided in both cases.
As for painkillers etc, usual with Codeine worked for me/or full doses of aspirin (if you can take it).
As for the mention of Tramadol... Sod off, I'd rather have the pain than not know what I'm doing!
