96 chimaera handbraske issue

Hi Guys, Im new to this so bear with me.

The handbrake on my 96 Chimaera is playing up as the button on it got stuck and wouldn't move and now it goes in but doesn't click or hold in place. Anyone got any ideas whats wrong and can it be got at and fixed from within the car ?

The button screws in the a long thread which is spring loaded and directly behind my thumb button are several washers the whole thing simple enough try starting with that, its maybe as simple as the washers catching or the spring goosed,,,

Also check the pivoting bolt. Reached from below. Has a habit to move out and give trouble.

Hi Guys,

Had the centre console out on my Chim to check why the handbrakes floppy and found the main bolt holding it to the chassis rail has sheared ! a common issue I believe.
How difficult is it to fix ? would it need to have the welded nut on the chassis ground off and a new one welded on ?
