I've always thought it was lemon or nothing and chosen to have lemon.

Afternoon cuppa in a nice big mug consists of one normal tea bag and one earl grey with sugar and milk. Only in afternoon mind, never for the morning brew.

I used to always have Twinings but then it was recommended I tried Sainsburys taste the difference which seemed to me to have a stronger Earl Grey taste. I stayed with that brand for years until I tried the Aldi diplomat brand which seemed to be very similar to STTD but considerably cheaper.

Dash of semi skimmed. It is by some distance the best tea I've ever drunk. Lemon is anathema surely? It must drown out the Bergamot.

Black, no sugar. Good quality tea shouldn't have that tannic edge you need lemon to remove.

Brew it in a small teapot (max 300 ml) for three minutes, then pour all the tea out into a similarly sized cup or mug. That way the leaves don't 'stew', and you can get at least one more infusion out of good tea.
